Here’s how the system works as of five minutes ago:

Claim Design

Claims are advanced by the “Stage” field. The first and automatically chosen value when you, a Lead Developer, create a new claim is “Design”.
This means that the claim is not ready to be claimed by anyone. It will not show up in most claim Views and you need to specifically filter for it in the claims browser.

They can remain at that stage indefinitely. When the claim is all nice and edited (remember to put in a Summary text, not just a Body text), just edit it and switch the Stage to “Unclaimed”.

Unclaimed Claims

At this point, the claim will show up in the Devboard for the Developers with the correct roles (Interior Devs can only see interior claims, etc.) or on the claims browser, where everyone can filter and see everything if they want.

As Developer, you can open the claim and see a “Request this Claim” button underneath the claim body, but above the usual “Post Comment/Bookmark” collection of links. Note that everyone can post comments and bookmark a claim, but only a Developer can claim it.

When this button is clicked, the claim is advanced to the stage “Claim Pending”, preventing others from requesting it. All Lead Developers will receive a PM informing them that you have requested this claim.

To add a Developer as a Claimant, the Lead Developer has to edit the claim node. The Stage must be set to “In Development” and the Developer needs to be chosen as the (single) Claimant.

Developing Claims

As the Claimant, you have the right to edit the claim and change two fields: Development Progress (a percentage) and CS Fields (the ESPs which contain the developed claim.

There is no limit on how many CS Files can be uploaded, nor does the Development Progress need to be updated whenever a file is uploaded.

If at any point you want to abandon the claim, you will see a button “Abandon Claim”. If you click it, the claim will be set back to the Stage “Unclaimed”, you will be removed as Claimant (so you can no longer edit the claim). Additionally, the Lead Developers will receive a PM, informing them that the claim is back to being open.

If you feel the claim is done, then change the Development Progress to 100% when you upload the final version. After this, you will have a button to “Put up thie claim for review”. When you click it, the Stage is advanced to “Pending Review”. In addition to showing up on Reviewers’ Devboards, they (and the Lead Developers) will receive a PM.

Reviewing Claims

As a Reviewer, you can now add yourself to the claim by clicking the “Review this Claim” button. Clicking it will add you as a Reviewer and advance the claim’s stage to “In Review”.
More Reviewers can add themselves at this point. All Reviewers have the same rights as a developers, so they can add additional, corrected CS Files (or the Developer can still add more).

Finalizing and Merging

When the final review has been conducted by a Lead Developer, the claim has done its duty and can fall out of active development. To do this, the Stage needs to be set to “Finished” and the Claimant and Reviewers removed.

Later, when the claim is merged into a section file, the Stage can be set to “Merged” and it will fall out of pretty much all claim Views.

(Now the only thing missing is more open Claims.)

Anonytroll

It will not show up in most claim Views and you need to specifically filter for it in the claims browser.

Ah, so THAT’S why the Criminal Lawyer claim disappeared from the list when I clicked claim. That was a little confusing--maybe it’d be better to have the claims divided into tabbed views instead having to search for the ones that don’t show up on the front page otherwise?

Why would you want to see claims in design by default?

I see that pending claims also didn’t show by default, that was a mistake. Fixed that.

Well, why not? If someone takes a liking to a claim currently in the design phase, maybe they can help it get out of that phase faster, too. I also like having a general idea of what else is being worked on so I know where my piece fits in and what pieces might need more attention.

But, mostly not having them disappear once they've been put on the list. Shizz happens!
