Okay, I’m creating this topic because I’m losing track of what’s all on the to-do list and because it isn’t apparent what I’m doing at any given day (when I’m not playing Elite).

So first, the big to-do list, updated when things change.

Website General

  • Create a popup or overlay for new users, so they can be pointed to existing resources
  • Update to Drupal 8
    • Test if it works on this server (after 23.03.2016)
    • Convert D7 modules with the auto-converted
    • Convert theme to D8's Twig (or if it's an edited Platon by then, move to the D8 version)
  • Overhaul Styling with a slideshow on the main page and more space
  • Contact form

Administrative

  • Honeypot or Botcha to supplement Captcha
  • Better banning system
  • Hold Workshops
    • Rules (Admins)
    • Claims (Everyone)
    • General Website/Dashboard (Everyone)

Articles

  • Make an article view when the main pages becomes a landing page
  • Maybe Calendar-style?

Badges

  • Different graphics (after forum comment and general comment styling are changed)
  • Add badges for PT-members
    • Perhaps other projects, if desired

Claims Browser

  • More styling fixes for the terrible main filter
  • Add graphs
  • Add a rule for 30 day inactive claims (PM to leads and claimant/reviewers)

Bugtracker

  • Add Rule for new bugs posted (PM to Leads)
  • Anonymous users should be able to create Bugs

Basic Pages

  • Write Community page
  • Write dedicated pages to IRC and Discord
    • Link the existing IRC plugin
  • Write XML-Sitemap for Google (can't be generated automatically due to server permissions, so this has to come late)

Galleries

  • Create User Galleries

CK Editor

Panels

  • Landing pages
    • Main Page
    • Claims Browser
  • Change the Profile layout (also Field Groups, which need a bugfix)

Things to Try

  • Publication Date for Articles?
  • Auto-redirect when the automatic url is changed

About Page Updates

  • Fill in and then link the Project History page
  • Fill in and then link the Meet the Team page

Community Page Updates

  • Update the text on the Meetings and IRC page and then move it to Community

Now, things which have been done:

2016-03-08

  • Switched on automatic claims system on the dev site and tested it with Gnomey.
    • Accidentally emailed a whole lot of people.

2016-03-09

  • Added a simple cookie popup plugin, to actually comply with EU law.
  • Kaziem moved Meetings & IRC off the forum ghetto and in the Development menu and shuffled things around in Media.

2016-03-10

  • Investigating how OpenLucius does things.

2016-03-11

  • Decoupled results from filters (Claims Browser).
  • Posted a how-to draft for it – still waiting on the go ahead to go live.

2016-03-12

  • Kaziem rolled Planning Documents into the handbook and swapped the link in the development menu to link to the handbook instead.
  • Kaziem updated the handbook for ease of use. It's still under construction but it should be clear and navigable now.

2016-03-13

  • Switched Claims Automation on
  • Switched Body field with a Claims Description field, fixing the (hopefully) last issues with field permissions for Claims.

2016-03-15

  • Switched Bugtracker Workflow to Taxonomy
  • Alleviated data entry issues in the bugtracker

2016-03-17

  • Worked on Galleries on the Dev Site

2016-03-18

  • Started the slow process of moving TR long-term to an Adaptive Theme based design.

2016-03-19

  • “10 Last Active Posts” is back.
  • Added tabs to the gallery

2016-03-20

  • Added some tabs to the claims browser, pending rework

2016-03-21

  • Styling shenanigans

2016-03-30

  • Added a “back to top” button

2016-03-31

  • Started backporting things from the Dev site
    • Some minor block styling
    • Community Call block in the front page
  • Ongoing styling shenanigans on the Dev site.

2016-04-02

  • Anony laid the groundwork for the new asset claim browser and Gnomey has added some fields to it. He still needs to customize the fields to fit in better.

2016-04-16

  • Still working on styling
  • Several items on the list are done on the dev site but can’t be ported over until the styling of at least front page, books and, forums is finalized and ported

2016-04-17

  • Updated CKEditor to 4.5.8
    • Removed autosave, no more popup
    • Reversed the use of line breaks (ENTER) and paragraphs (SHIFT+ENTER)
  • Installed Tags and Queues to forum topics
    • Updated several existing threads to use them
    • They are functionally identical, but Queues are reserved for the development process and can’t be entered by users, while tags can be
    • The Forum Search can filter by Tags and Queues, but nothing else yet (Tag Cloud or something similar to be implemented in the future)

2016-05-05

  • Began work on a panel landing page for Media
  • Put proposed updates for each of the main menu items into the to-do list.

2016-05-06

  • Rearranged the downloads menu to have separate menu items for the different downloads, made the original nonclicklable.
  • Minor updates to the Join page
  • Rearranged the About menu to have a new menu item and made the original nonclickable
  • Made blank pages in preparation for more about TR information
  • Updated About the Project page
  • Updated the Frequently Asked Questions page

2016-05-15

  • Styling backported from the Dev Site
  • Added Forum Attachment Images which use Colorbox (they display as small image and have an auto-popup)
  • Enabled comments in Articles
  • Reenabled non-forum comments (threaded by default)
  • Devboard has been folded into the Dashboard (reorganisation of the boards themselves pending)

2016-05-29

  • Handbook main page, about page, mod guide main page, and planning docs main page have all been changed into panel nodes and are making use of the new styling abilities.
  • Assets in the Asset Browser now also have a field for uploading images.

2016-06-01

  • Watcher installed for notifications. I can be found under “Watchlist” in the user menu. Notifications (if you want to receive email notifications) are sent in bulk every 3 hours to reduce server load, so there might be a delay on receiving email notifications about updates.
  • Assorted Backend changes to views (faster rendering for some of them).

2016-06-09

  • Bug layout improved.

2016-07-06

  • Updates to the Assets

2016-07-09

  • Update to the backend
  • Minor styling backports (the major one ran into troubles that needs investigating)

2016-07-12

  • Asset browser corrections (also added a collaborative text field)
  • Styling backport (specifically, the font settings were changed; most noticeable for Desktop users where the font is bigger)

2016-07-16

  • Started work on the Dashboard

2016-07-25

  • Added a user profile block to the Dashboard
  • Added a file list to the Dashboard
  • Backend updates (bugfixes & performance improvements)

2016-07-27

  • Finished work on the Dashboard (Content Tab)
  • Created Help Need Tab, for assets in proposition/request, unclaimed claims, and the like
  • The Development Tab is slated to evolve into info about where the current user has started developing things (claims they are reviewing/developing, bugs they have filed)

2016-07-31

  • Dashboard is finished for now.
  • Started working on further asset browser automation on the dev site.

2016-08-03

  • Added an Aspirant field for non-developers who want to develop assets
  • Works similar to the Claims system (including a PM to the leads to check it out and a lead dev-only block in their Devboard)
  • Still lacks some quality of life buttons (i.e. to get off the developer list), but that’s further down the list

2016-09-25

  • Updated the FAQ page with new information. Also at some point in the past the About page also got updated. So did the Join page.

2016-10-Something

  • Updated various versions (bugfixes, security)
  • Helped Garfield fix issues after the server migration
  • Various unsuccessful attempts to get the smtp connection working again

2016-12-23

  • Replaced Merge Claims with Release Files (new content type)

2017-01-11

Right, so website progress is still going on, but since it’s basically all styling at this point, I was keeping quite.

But anyway: since everyone knows that the site has rough edges and everything, I decided to tackle the Gordian Knot which holds up everything else: the styling. Everything else can be derived from this, the root problem of many issues.

Since I’m about as skilled a web designer as I am a webmaster, it appears to be taking forever and I can’t really do it alone. I’ve been struggling along with some of the old mockups from when Adarnocil and Swiftoak were collaborating on things and Swiftoak’s newer mockups (they are in the website feedback thread).

Right now, the Dev Site needs more feedback than it’s getting. The styling is at the point where I’m hitting my not-a-graphics-guy limits and I need some help. Preferably a web designer, who can do all of this better than me, but everyone will do.
Log in there, look around the forum main page, and this example of a non-forum node (forum threads aren’t styled yet) and give me some feedback please. Apparently the site is missing contrast and I don’t know how to fix it. The row of links looks kinda wonky and don’t know how it should look. All in all, it looks more like a toy website to me, but since I pretty much abhor modern web design conventions, I’ll defer to informed opinion.

tl;dr: styling sucks, halp plz?

Second prettiest website on the net. Would recommend taking notes on good website design from http://www.lingscars.com/.

Handbook To Do

General Updates

  • Find a way to get rid of the “Submitted by” tagline
  • Investigate removing page titles, so titles can be placed and specified in the content
  • Investigate a better “book table of contents” module/styling
  • Check through all the new views, blocks, custom content types, etc to ensure they have proper admin names and admin descriptions

Main Page

  • Update preview images on right side of screen to be prettier
  • Maybe update styling to match the styling of the planning docs & modder’s guide
  • Write new blurbs

About TR

  • Decide on information structuring, particularly the “help wanted” sections.
  • Rewrite everything in this section.
  • Once new structuring is decided on, update the styling to use the panel node properties.
  • (Should a guide to our maps go here?)

Planning Documents

  • Update the Master Plan. Figure out why it’s still “under construction” and finish it.
  • Check through all existing state/group/faction document and make sure each one is not empty. If it is empty, add it to the to-do list to add at least a small blurb.
  • Check out using images (screenshots, maybe) for title pictures

Modder’s Guide

  • Update Asset Development guidelines with better styling.
  • Update Intro to Modding with better styling.
  • Update Audio Guidelines with better styling.
  • Update Concept Art Guidelines with better styling.
  • Update Literature Guidelines with better styling.
  • Update Quest and Dialogue Guidelines with better styling.
  • Rewrite Exterior Guidelines with better styling and new information.
  • Rewrite Quester Guidelines with better styling and new information.
  • Rewrite Scripter Guidelines with better styling and new information.
  • Tutorials:
    • Make a list of tutorials we are in need of, and post it on the forums. Or post it on the asset browser. Somewhere people can see it.
    • Clean up Exterior Modding Guide, make sure any images are hosted internally. Update styling.
    • Clean up External Tutorials. Update Styling.
    • Clean up Inspirational Books for Concept Artists. Update Styling.
    • Clean up Interior Modding Tutorial, make sure any images are hosted internally. Update styling.
    • Clean up Pathgridding Tutorial, make sure any images are hosted internally. Update styling.
    • Clean up TESAME Tutorial. Update styling.

Handbook Changelog

2016-05-29

  • New handbook launched on site. A few old links might break, but the url aliases should have been set to dodge this. Old handbook remains hidden in system in case it is needed for some reason (like experimentation)
  • Handbook to-do list is made.

2016-06-??

  • Interior Showcasing Guidelines have been rewritten & split from the main showcase page. Exteriors and Scripting still remain.

2016-06-16

  • Assets listed on the Deshaan Plains region page have been moved to the Asset Browser.

2016-06-19

  • Handbook tags are set up and applied to all existing handbook pages. Page reshuffling to remove unnecessary “sorting” pages is in progress.

2016-06-20

  • Handbook page reshuffling complete. The pages that formerly existed only for sorting have been removed.

2016-07-07

  • Updated the Intro to Modding page to fix old links and fit better with the new structure of the handbook.
  • Updated the audio guidelines with newer information. Styling still needs an update.
  • Updated the literature guidelines with newer information. Styling still needs an update.
  • Updated the quest + dialogue guidelines with newer information. Styling still needs an update.
  • Added “Copyright and You” page to the modder’s guide.
  • Updated the Asset guidelines page to make proper reference to the asset browser.
  • Split the remaining showcase guidelines into their own pages.
  • Updated concept art guidelines with information about the asset browser.

2016-09-25

  • Dumped the Dres Asset kit into the asset browser, so it’s no longer stuck (improperly) in the handbook a while ago.
  • Also, the Deshaan assets also got pushed into the asset browser. At some point.
  • Wrote up and added “How does TR edit VV” to the About section of the handbook.
  • Skimmed the guidelines, made sure they refer properly to the new asset browser workflows.
  • Added the Tamriel_Data naming guidelines to the Resources section of the handbook.

Does: concepts, textures, youtube vids, admin stuff e.g. PR, handbook, assets, small website things. Activity level: wildly unpredictable. Still active. Find me on Discord.
