Hello!

I installed TR on a whim a few days ago, and so far I've been thouroughly impressed by the quality of the content. I'm interested in programming and game art and development as a hobby and have been keeping an eye on some of the various large modding projects like skyblivion, but this one somehow slipped under my radar. I've only recently managed to actually get fully into morrowind recently after several previous false starts, and the worldbuilding has grabbed me and completely sucked me in.

I've got some skill in traditional and digital art and know my way around blender. I've used the CS a little bit for oblivion, although that was a long while ago. After the exams are done (this was a really bad time of year to get hooked on something new) I'm hoping to get back into practice and see if I can contribute something.

Hi everyone !

I've been playing Morrowind on and off for the last 10 years, and have been aware of TR's existence for the last 6 years or so. I only got the chance to actually play it for the first time last year, and was completely blown away by the quality of what's already released, and the project's ability to still be going strong 17 years after its inception, so I figured it's time I do my part to help TR's development, which is why I'm here today. Heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all of those who have contributed to date, for bringing this wonderful world to life :)

I've followed a couple CS tutorials a couple months ago, both on here and the OpenMW website, but apart from that, I've got zero experience in modding, and I'm afraid I won't often be able to find enough time to do actual CS work, which I imagine is very time-consuming. So, what are some non-CS areas that need help these days : Quest writing (note that I'm no native english speaker)? Quest testing? Documentation write-up/formatting? Promotion/recruitment on the Morrowind subreddit? Let me know, and I'll see what I can contribute!

One last question : should I find the time to work with the CS, what's the team's stance on using OpenMW's Construction Set when working on TR? I've only got a Linux partition these days, so I'm not sure I could get the original CS to work.

Cheers, and see you around!

Hi and welcome. Thanks for the glowing praise. blush

Quester writers and testers are a notorious bottleneck and being a native speaker is not a requirement: the OE Thieves Guild questline, for example, was written by a Finn (Rats). Any help is very welcome here.

I'm not sure if OpenCS is currently in a state in which you could creating proper mods to be slotted into TR with. Feedback so far varies between "it's unusable" and "no idea, never used it". We don't have a policy about using it - if you want to try it, you can go ahead, but you'd be on your own (at first?).

Edit: As I just heard from Capostrophic, an OpenMW dev, it's probably not going to be useful. You might want to try setting up the original CS with Wine.

OpenMW-CS doesn't compile scripts into bytecode, so any resulting plugin will have to be resaved in MWEdit/TESCS.
The reason is that OpenMW doesn't read bytecode subrecord and its own bytecode format it compiles scripts to upon loading them is different.

Belated thanks for the welcome and the info regarding OpenMW's CS, Atrayonis!
The roles/workflows of questers and writers are explained quite clearly in the project's documentation; the tester's job, however, is a bit more nebulous to me: as I understand it, they download and do in-game tests of WIP quests currently being worked on (ie claim status: "In Development", not "Pending Review" or "Under Review"), both with low-level, unaffiliated and high-level, multi-affiliated characters, and report on their findings to the quest's developer. Is that correct ? Or do they also contribute to the quest's Reviewing process ?

Hi everyone,
I'm Svartalfar, a french modder as known as SvartmerII on Nexus (alias already taken, you know how it is).
I was recently invited by Cicero to join the project and to give you some of my (unfinished) models so, here I am with my stuff! I hope there is no hazing for newbies like me.
However, I don't have any english version of Morrowind nor the Construction Kit so, I won't be able to help you with quest testing and level design. I can work on quest redaction, lore stuff, models and I can make some good puns, but that's all.

Nice to meet you, hope we'll get along well.

Welcome! Good to see you here. Did you manage to get to our discord? There is a link at the bottom of the website underneath community. That's the best place to discuss/share any models you are working on. 3d modelers are always in need for TR.
We are friendly and would be happy to see you there. Hopefully the link will work for you (I remember you saying you had issues with discord before).

Alas, Discord still insists on sending me an email that never come... I know perseverance is a virtue but it should give up now, it would spare us some time.

For now, I am stuck up with Nexus and the forum (and IRC). Don't know when my Heart of Gold will return to normality.

Yeah I know, I was on there before. :)

I just spent too much time away from the web and Mephala punished me (and yes, I have other resources to share, just need to understand now why mediafire refuses to upload them).

Welcome Ac1nerdy! We are always in need of concept artists, and judging from your work, you are very much capable of creating incredible art that we can use for inspiration in the developement side. If you go to the community tab, there is a link to the Discord for Tamriel Rebuilt. That is where we are all hanging out, and there are always people online that you can speak to in regards to what concept art to offer, or for general conversations.

Thank you for your interest, and look forward to seeing some awesome concept art :)

Hi everyone! I'm osiris, from Rome, and I have been playing Morrowind since its release. Maybe some of you remember me: I've been already active at TR in the past, busy testing stuff at the time of the very first releases. Then real life forced me to move away from this forum, and so I was inactive for years. And now after some time I'm finally back!

So many things have changed in my life in the meantime, so I don't know if I will still have the chance to actively contribute, but one thing is for sure: I'm happy to be back and can't wait to put my hands on what's new. smiley

Welcome back! And yeah, a lot would have changed since then :)

What roles did you have during Map 1? You said you were playtesting. Just curious as you said that you won't have much time to contribute but we will take even just a little bit if you wanted to do that. As every little bit helps towards the end goal.

Even if you just want to hang around, nice to see people returning, and be sure to follow the link in the footer under Community to our Discord server (also under the drop down menu in the header). That is where we all are these days.

Cheers!

Thank you, Cicero! :)

Yeah I know what you mean, and you're right; having been my role in TR limited to only playtesting so far (that was exactly what I did in Map 1), to keep contributing even with just a little bit of playtesting from time to time shouldn't be too much demanding even if RL has changed a little.

Sounds good! :) Let me just become more familiar with the new site and Discord, take a look at what has been released in the meantime, and I'll see what I can do. :)

Hi Osiris! Funny how people find their way back eventually. Morrowind is a keeper.

The lastest releases are going to be a joy to explore if you got the time!

Hi!
I'm not new; I've been a member since about 2014 or so. I've taken a many year-long hiatus from modding (and games in general). But this whole irl blight problem has got my modding juices flowing again.
It's okay if you don't remember me, I didn't do too much. I did mostly did interiors when I was around, but I hope to get more involved this time around. I posted a literature asset earlier as my first bit of reintroduction while I relearn the cs.

Hi there and welcome back. Every help is welcome. There are a lot of interiors open for claiming in the claims browser, so take a look.

Most of the project talk has moved to discord. So the forum is a bit of a quite place these days.

I hope to see you around more!

Hello ! (Sorry for my bad english...)

I'm a french player of Morrowind, a big fan of the Elder Scrolls saga for many years (I've played EVERY game except Shadowkey and Blades which I can't own). I'm mostly interested in Elder Scrolls lore, even if I have less and less time to devote to it.
I'm mostly a translator of Morrowind mods, belonging to the Brotherhood of Translators ("la Confrérie des Traducteurs"), a translation community dating back to 2008.

Morrowind is my favorite game, and as soon as I could get an English version of Morrowind (thanks to the 25 years of TES for offering Morrowind), I immediately installed Tamriel Rebuilt to test it. And I was greatly impressed.

I spend hours walking around and admiring the game's environment. I love the Thirr Valley, even if it's only in alpha, I already like it a lot !!!
It makes me sad that the English mods are incompatible with the French version of the game. I hope that the "broken refs" problem will be fixed one day, and that we'll finally be able to play all the mods we want without fear of breaking our game, and maybe be able to translate TR and other big mods without using CS!

I don't have any special skills in modding. I don't know how to model, draw, write in English (I do very well in French though), or compose. My knowledge in Morrowind's lore is not very advanced (even if I read Vivec's 36 sermons).
I can manage with the CS, but only for simple things. And I don't really know the main things to avoid when creating mods.
Above all, the English language blocks me a lot. My text must be incomprehensible! xD

But I still wanted to introduce myself and register here, because reading the development topics on Tamriel Rebuilt is a pleasure!

Merci de m'avoir lu et passez une bonne journée ! :P

(Coucou Svartalfar :P)

The French is a very difficult language! :P Many French people continue to make mistakes and errors in vocabulary/conjugation/spelling/grammar!

I can eventually translate texts, if you need.

A translation of Tamriel Rebuilt in french is unthinkable for the moment, because of the size of the mod. And there are only two of us, with lots of things to do.
I hope a translation can be done, but we can still dream.

But if you need translations for the site for example (like the texts of the "TR Handbook"), I could. If needed.
It's one of the only things I could do! xD

Hi everyone,

I'm HotTwinkBoi, (it's just a stupid name, don't think too much about it)

Me and my cousin (he will be joining shortly) have both been huge fans of Morrowind since its release, even more so than the rest of the Elder Scrolls franchise. Personally, I have spent a lot of time in the game, over the years returning constantly. Recently, after returning to Morrowind yet again, I stumbled across TR, and was immediately blown away by the quality and scale of the mod. Needless to say, I showed my cousin straight away, who was also immediately impressed.

This prompted us both to seek out the community and become immediately interested in participating in the mods further development. We are both creatively inclined, my cousin is a graphic designer and an artist, and I am a philosophy and history major who has studied literature, film, and visual arts as well at various points. We will most likely be focusing on writing (quests at this stage, but potentially also literature) and concept art, but would also love to be involved with those in the community who are more practically experienced in development.

We both look forward to contributing to the TR community!

Hi and welcome. There is always need for questers and artsy people and there is a lot to do.

Most of the discussions nowadays happen on the Discord server. Link can be found on the website. There are also multiple pages of information on questwriting on the forums and in the handbook (found under about in the menu).

Ask questions if you have them. I'll see you around.

Hello everyon!

My name is Rad. I've been playing Morrowind on and off for 10ish years. I've recently reinstalled Morrowind and TR and I am currently looking for friendly mods to go with them.

I made a thread about it here, in case anyone is interested in pointing me in the right direction.

Kind regards,

Rad

Hello!

I am HotTwinkboi's cousin. While i worked as a graphic and branding designer, I retrained as a UX/UI designer but left the industry a few years ago to pursue concept art and producing my own graphic novels.

Morrowind has such a big place in my heart. The immersion I felt during that game is the high ive been chasing ever since. I do recall one day jumping across the island to boost my stamina and it hit me, 'i could jump IRL and boost my IRL stamina!'. So Morrowind gave me an incredible gaming experience but also a progression map for the rest of my life. I still use Petty soul gems (quartz) as a totem to capture and channel creative energy haha sounds so woo woo but its a testiment to how much of an impact this game had on my life.

While my desire is to strengthen my writing and concept art, im also interested to see if any of my ux/ui or graphics skill set might come in handy.

Thanks!
