Moved to Unsorted since the Audio forums are being removed. -10Kaziem

There are a few quite awesome TR creatures which are still missing sounds. This is my attempt to rectify the situation.

Currently the Velk is using the default generic monster sounds and the Vermai is borrowing Clannfear’s sound set. I’ve edited some new sounds for them. The Velk sounds are that of a frog, but with the pitch changing so it is a bit like a bird calling. IMO it works very well, especially in-game when there are a group of them: sounds as if they were communicating with one another. The Vermai uses heavily edited walrus sounds; my goal was to get it sound uncannily human for extra heebie-jeebies.

Sounds be here.

The new Skyrender and the Hoom are still missing their sounds. I was tasked with making the Hoom sounds once upon a time in the olden days, which I promise I’ll do eventually. The Skyrender will need the standard roar, moan, and scream sound effects as well as a looping sound effect of its wings buzzing. Will take a stab at it, too.

Hey Rats I really like your sounds. Maybe the screams are a little short but other than that they’re great smiley

I find that creature sounds sound very different (generally better) in-game, so they’re always kind of hard to judge. (I think this is largely due to atmosphere, really; I think a lot of Morrowind voice lines also sound a little flat and unconvincing listening to them in the CS, but I’ve never noticed it in-game, where they blend into the general atmosphere). On that note, these sound really good as-is, which is always a good sign. The scream being short probably would work well in-game, as screams tend to be interrupted by the next attack from the player or by the creature’s death. It’s certainly better than the scream lasting longer than the dying animation.

Yes, it’s hard to judge whether or not the sounds work outside the game. I’ll try and upload an .esp with the sounds for playtesting soon-ish.

The scream sounds are deliberately short for the two reasons Gnomey mentioned.

Well I did do something for the Vermai a while back. Apparently its sounds from Battlespire are intact in Morrowind’s files unused as generic placeholder creature sounds. http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43954/ you can find a mod I did for it here. It gives TR’s Vermai the battlespire sounds. I had to swap around the death and attack sounds though because the death sound is too long to be the death sound in Morrowind. Works okay for an attack sound though.

Not trying to steal your thread Rats, just throwing it out there that I did this.

Don’t worry, I’ve been pointing at those too when it came up in one of the Saturday meetings.

It seems however, that Rats’ sounds are more popular than the Battlespire ones. Sorry. frown

Oh I’m not offended by it lol. I don’t blame them. A lot of the sounds battlespire used (and by association Morrowind’s placeholder sounds) were pretty stock anyway. If he can make it sound better I’m all for that. I will leave my plugin up as an alternative for more nostalgic people though. I mainly did that plugin because I felt it would be easier on the devs by having one less creature to worry about and of course to kinda keep in the theme of certain Morrowind creatures (notably scamps) using their battlespire sounds.

Also rats, you may want to check out the unused ascended sleeper sounds. They’re almost flute-like in sound. Might be a good place to start with creatures that use flute noises in the game. (not saying use those sounds but mostly to get an idea for some new ones)

Rats and co: did this all get posted in the Asset Browser/bugtracker? If not can you post it there and let me know, and I’ll close up this thread.

Does: concepts, textures, youtube vids, admin stuff e.g. PR, handbook, assets, small website things. Activity level: wildly unpredictable. Still active. Find me on Discord.
