Tamriel Rebuilt - 25.05 Release

Tamriel Rebuilt, the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind modding project, is proud to release our largest expansion yet, Grasping Fortune.

This expansion centers on the Hlaalu capital of Narsis, a nexus of immense wealth and cruel injustice. Surrounding the city is the vast and dangerous hinterland of Shipal-Shin, whereas a number of Hlaalu and Redoran towns dot the shores of the Thirr river in the Coronati Basin region downstream of Narsis.

Will you cozy up to the obscenely wealthy Hlaalu merchants, try to soothe the downtrodden as a Temple servant, or chase illicit coin as a member of the Ja-Natta Syndicate? There are a few ways we can do this, and the choice is yours.

What’s New?

In short:

  • 410 brand-new exterior cells of landmass – this is about a third the size of vanilla’s Vvardenfell island. Aside from the vast metropolis of Narsis, the area includes the desert canyons of the Shipal-Shin region, the densely settled agricultural hinterland of the Coronati Basin, and the canopied mushroom forest of the Othreleth Woods.
  • Over 870 new cells of interior locations, of which slightly less than 200 are for Narsis alone. Another ~140 are hostile dungeons of several variants: in addition to vanilla dungeon types, there are also the brand new Skyrender hives, an Ayleid dungeon, and a Remanite fortress.
  • Over 270 new quests, featuring questlines for nearly all vanilla factions – most especially House Hlaalu with over 40 new quests, including a Grandmaster sequence – but also the brand-new Ja-Natta Syndicate, an unscrupulous criminal faction challenging the local Thieves Guild.

In more detail, Grasping Fortune centers on Narsis, possibly the largest fully realized, custom-made city in an Elder Scrolls game or mod ever. The city features memorable landmarks, such as the Measurehall, being the beating heart of Hlaalu enterprise, the vast market galleries of the Grand Bazaar, the over-the-top manor of the Second Family of House Hlaalu, the domed Imperial Consulate, the lofty Narsis Arena, and The Fortuna, the province’s largest and most notorious casino.

South of the city, the lawless deserts of the Shipal-Shin region that border both Black Marsh and Cyrodiil are recommended only for experienced adventurers. Unwitting travellers often fall pray there to rogue wizards and smugglers – or worse, the huge Skyrender hornets and mighty Canyon Threshers. Be wary also of the Shinathi, the Temple-worshipping Dunmer herders that call the region their home – they rarely turn down a chance for a little robbery on the side. But those willing to take the risk will find fine rewards in the ruins of the daedric city of Ald Khan, the Ayleid tower of Mala Tor, or the Remanite fortress of Casimor.

You will find a little easier going in the Coronati Basin, an agricultural region saturated with towns, plantations, and farms, mostly of House Hlaalu. Still, a proud-but-crumbling remnant of the ancient House Redoran Waters March hangs on at the entrance to Lake Coronati – the twin fortress-towns of Ald Iuval and Ald Marak. Adventurers of all sorts will find opportunities to profit from the simmering conflict between the two houses.

Spanning all these locations are innumerable little quests highlighting the themes of and also a large number of full-sized questlines for House Hlaalu, House Redoran, Tribunal Temple, Morag Tong, Fighters, Mages and Thieves guilds, East Empire Company, Imperial Cult, and Imperial Legion, as well as the brand-new Ja-Natta Syndicate and a full arena questline.

In addition to all this new content, the release features several dozen bugfixes and small additions, as well as balance or consistency tweaks across previously released areas of the Morrowind mainland. You will also find many new hooks added to vanilla characters on Vvardenfell, giving roleplayers even more reasons to bring their adventures to the mainland (done with a minimalist, compatibility-maximalizing hand, of course).

This release brings the total playable landmass of Tamriel Rebuilt to 2554 exterior cells (in comparison, vanilla Morrowind and all expansions have roughly 1550 cells) and the total quest count to more than 900 (roughly 495 for vanilla + expansions).

As we release Grasping Fortune, rapid work continues in parallel to bring even further parts of the Morrowind mainland to our players. The next major expansion will likely be Poison Song. In addition to adding a new stretch of the idyllic Orethan region surrounding Almalexia and completely revamping our old and content-poor Sundered Scar region, Poison Song will finally add our first House Indoril questlines. Concurrently, our developers are building Wealth Beyond Measure, a large expansion centering on Kragenmoor and the Othreleth Woods region, which will finalize the southwestern quadrant of Morrowind and bring to a close our House Hlaalu content.

If you’d like to help us bring Morrowind’s mainland to life, consider joining our project! It is easy to start modding Morrowind – few of our developers ever had any mod or game development experience prior to joining us. You will find much help from us and our in-depth modding guidelines.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this vast new expansion! If you encounter any bugs or balance and consistency issues, do let us know on our bugtracker.

Quite possibly the greatest and most inspiring release yet. I'm so proud of this community, and the experiences it creates in this medium, year after year. Cheers to grasping fortune!
