This thread has been moved from the asset forum because we already got the big standing statue, and the asset forum is being removed. If someone has a statue asset, post it in the asset browser; otherwise if you just have ideas post them here or in the relevant thread. -10Kaziem

I’ve moved discussion of the statues over from this thread. I still haven’t read through Templar Tribe’s post; as far as the Old Ebonheart statues are concerned, when they were discussed before the snake statue, the twin of the Ebonheart dragon statue, got the best reception, with the Alessia statue in second, as less important but something that would be nice to have. The Talos statue was generally seen as the least cost-effective, so to speak, given that it is by far the most complex and may not be worth the trouble.

As the one who designed the statues, I’d naturally love to see any or all of them made, but I do consider them very low priority.

Ah, man amazing work! Seriously! I'll post a reply when I'm not on mobile as to what is needed, its kind of a long post with some explanation behind it. Thank you for your contributions man!

As explained by Gnomey in an older post:
I wouldn't describe any of these as 'assets needed', but I think this is a better place for discussing the possibility of Old Ebonheart eventually getting a unique statue or two than the thread in which the original (to my knowledge) discussion took place.

An advantage of statues is that most of them don't require much space, and can easily be added in after the fact, though naturally more impressive statues need more space to give the proper imposing effect. I think they're a good way to add something unique to Old Ebonheart without holding up progress on the city.

---

The first statue, and easily the most complex, is of Talos, in 1st Era garb linking him to Tiber Septim and with a gaping hole in his chest linking him to Shezzar. I designed it with a specific location in mind; spanning the two towers flanking the bridge to Old Ebonheart Castle. It represents Imperial sway over Morrowind, Talos' sword hanging over the province -- and any who visit the castle -- like the sword of Damocles. Naturally, by the time of Morrowind, its symbolism rings hollow. I feel as though some unintentional wordplay slipped in there...
Strictly speaking, the red cloth doesn't need to be animated, and the design can probably be further simplified. The focus of the statue is Imperial hubris.

The second statue is intended to be paired with the statue in Ebonheart, underlining the link between the two cities. Where Ebonheart has the dragon, representing Akatosh, Old Ebonheart has the wyrm, representing Shezzar, or by association Talos. Where the Ebonheart dragon is coming down from the heavens and circling the tower, protecting it and the world and representing the guiding hands of the gods, the wyrm rises up from the ground and winds about the tower in its striving towards the heavens, representing human endeavour.
Its linking the two Ebonhearts could also go beyond the symbolic; I noticed that the vast ebony pillar at the heart of the Ebonheart statue very much resembles a propylon. I think we could use this; the Ebonheart propylons were either of Dunmeri make, perhaps originally linking the stronghold network around Red Mountain to one on the mainland, or it was of Imperial make in imitation of the Dunmeri propylons. (Just as the symbol for Old Ebonheart is a Dunmeri sigil with an Imperial image superimposed on it). Either a special figure or -- what is more likely -- a select few are given indexes with which they can travel between the two cities. Rather than Ebonheart being a newly built port which took on the name of a much larger and still apparently thriving city that is not really that close to it, relative to other settlements in the area, because of reasons, perhaps it is just the second half of 'Old' Ebonheart, and the settlements are less distinct than they seem.
The advantage of this statue is that half of the modelling work has already been done for us. The disadvantage is that it would have a large base.

[img]http://i.imgur.com/BtWzG2Hl.png[/img...

The four locations marked are the only ones I think could work, though an argument could be made for putting the statue just outside of the main gates.
The advantage of the first is that it rather matches the placement of the statue in Ebonheart, and would provide a nice opening view to players visiting Old Ebonheart by boat, but the disadvantage is that it would probably be hard to get the statue to look as though it belongs there, rather than having been tossed in after the fact as is naturally the case.
The advantage of the second is that the statue would be close to the docks but would have a square to itself. The disadvantages are that its view from the docks would be blocked by the walls, and that the square looks rather run-down in its current state, and the statue would look somewhat out of place as a result.
The advantage of the third is that it is in a fancy location, the disadvantage is that it wouldn't have much room there and would look rather cramped. It would also play second fiddle to the fountain, which occupies the centre of the square.
The advantage of the fourth is that it would have a square to itself which is neither too large nor too narrow; the disadvantage is that that would only be true if what currently occupies the centre of that courtyard is moved away. Also, I'm not sure whether the statue being in the castle is a good or bad thing; it was in a more accessible location in Ebonheart.
Another possibility might be to stuff it indoors, if there's a room large and impressive enough. I suppose that would be a question for Seneca.

Whereas the other two statues are supposed to represent Ebonheart and the Empire to a degree and look imposing, the third is supposed to be relatively small and crude, and can really be put pretty much anywhere. I might as well post the IRC log in which I came up with the idea:

---

As in the IRC log, I view these all as basic designs; I'm not proposing that any or all of them be made, but I think images could be useful in helping us figure out whether we want a statue or two and how any statue we add should look.
Now for a proposal I have that involves statues is more along the lines up Indoril lands. I do not have any concepts unfortunately, however the best I can describe the idea is that there are 3 statues in Tribunal: http://i.imgur.com/3rSsji3.jpg

These are in the Old Mournhold ruins tileset, yet there is a lingering suspicion from me that these statues would be a lot more common OUTSIDE of Almalexia and in the Gardens (the Chapel-Estates of Indoril lords and nobles that dot the Indoril lands), and they would be in a bit better condition. From the image we can see that the first 2 statues are males, and I think a variation that would work well would be another statue of a male holding a staff or perhaps a male holding a paper lantern in his left hand like such: http://lpix.org/2048634/2015-05-15_00033.jpg

Only perhaps the lantern could be more in the style of the round paper lanterns or even the Ashlander bug lanterns. Now the last statue we see is one of Almalexia herself (I would assume). While interesting to note that it appears her hair is going FUCKING SUPER SAYIAN, it is also more to the point to exclaim that the particularities of the statue are interesting. The way she is holding the sword looks to be a ceremonial form, and it may be a different Face she is presenting (there’s the Warrior Face, the Mother Face, Snake-Face, etc etc). I think that one or two more statues that depict Almalexia herself would be of great use for later down the road. Something like the statue of St. Delyn: http://sjourda.free.fr/morrowind/scr/screen08.jpg

Perhaps showing her in more of a loving, embracing stance, or something with her holding a Her Hands sheild much like the statue of Talos is holding the sword in Skyrim: http://www.angel-spire.com/forum/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-28-1444320698.png

I had spitballed a few ideas for new Shrines for Almas Thirr:
An idea or two for the shrine that could possibly be at the center of the purposed lower waistworks learning temple.

Bayou of the Bifurcate – A shrine that is of a divining staff splitting a river in two; to represent the banks of the river and the split of Hlaluu and Indoril as well as signaling the crossing of Velothi. The inscription could read as:

“Learning to vesiculate the waters of Faith and Grace, upon these banks Velothi traveled with the Exodus and learned to gaze and navigate the portals of Magnus to lead our peoples to a new era of self-righteousness and unparalleled tranquility.”

Vault of Temporal Contemporaneity – A shrine that is a black box or possibly a box made of stone that has swords/daggers being thrust into it; to represent the sacrifice of Sharai and the gaze-wound of wonder. The inscription could read as:

“The fate of mortals is ever uncertain, the life-flow always ebbing and pulsing like the waters of the Thirr River. From sacrifice comes progression and from dedication comes enlightenment. From this spot all transgressions of life evolve into a Learning Path put before us, for those seeking the counsel of the Three and the Spirit of Centrality earn their catharsis through strife and divine stipulation.”
Perhaps Gnomey or Parker will have a better idea of any shrines we may need for any upcoming Indoril settlements, or they may have an idea for unique shrines for places like the Bloodstone Shrine near Almas Thirr. One last thing I would like to talk about is a purposed idea for I had for Necrom a while back; there are quite a few things I would change about Necrom as it is right now, but one thing I think is at least feasible is to change the bridge leading into the city. As it stands, the bridge is broken into 2 sections and it looks rather under whelming, as you can see at the near-center of this picture: http://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/images/100/2482090-1337235341.jpg

My idea would be to consolidate the bridge into being one larger bridge with SOMETHING to symbolize the city’s importance of being the CITY OF THE DEAD on it. What I think would be best would be to have the sides of the bridge be fitted with alcoves where sarcophaguses of extremely important Dunmer from the 2nd Era reside. If we look at the funerary rights from the Velothi Dunmer and compare them to what is left of Ashlander culture, and then take modern Tribunal tombs, we can see a large difference, though when Necrom was first built it would be assumed that the Chimer still used the Velothian customs of mummifying their dead, or at the least showing off the powerful ones.

Take a look at the bridge on the right side in this picture: https://reinspired.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/tr9.jpg

What I think would need to be done is to make the bridge more like a “wall” that you can walk across the top of; think the Great Wall of China. Also, another interesting thing about the Great Wall of China is that it’s also basically a mass grave.
When Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered construction of the Great Wall around 221 B.C., the labor force that built the wall was made up largely of soldiers and convicts. It is said that as many as 400,000 people died during the wall's construction; many of these workers were buried within the wall itself.
So with these alcoves build in along the sides of the bridge with the sarcophaguses of important Dunmer (who I guess at the time would have been Chimer?), it would really represent the city in an interesting and unique light.

Sorry for the shitstorm post, but they were just some ideas we’ve had floating around for a while now. Thanks either way for your hard work brotha. :)

...wowza. Okay, I’ll have a crack at a statue from one of the descriptions you have given make a new thread onces I do :).

Talos sounds fun! Although, when I googled him I forgot to put “Talos Skyrim” or whatever and got screenies from Jason and the Argonauts (1963)! I’ll Imperial and low-res Talos up for Tiber! By that I mean I’ll use him as a guide… new mesh :)

Any feedback on my rocks? :)

If you can get some statues put out I will literally cry tears of pure joy. Also the rocks themselves look amazing; the texture leaves some to be desired but as Gnomey said it’s more the model that matters right now and the model is seriosuly some high quality work! Maybe you could use some Molag Amur or West Gash rocks as inspiration as well? They have very interesting shapes to them. :) But really, thank you so much, you’ve no idea how awesome it is to have another modeler on deck with us. It makes it so much easier for us to make headway in this crazy project. ;p

Wasn’t going to post this until it was finished, but I actually made a statue sort of based on that Talos design. Looks like this:

Saint_Jiub over at P:C is working on the textures (since I suck at textures). Also the lapels don’t flutter in the wind, since I do not know one single thing about animations.

Er, wow, that’s outstanding. Even as a WIP, as the fellow who made the concept I’m really happy with it.

Well, that just captures the feel of the concept art just perfectly! Great work.

The cloth pieces need not be animated. We can always add a modified version of a vanilla flag model for that effect.

Thank you. Placing it between two towers will require a couple of mesh edits, but that should be no problem.

Saint_Jiub over at Project: Cyrodiil has been kind enough to create a texture for this statue:

We will use the small version as a cult statue and as decoration in various places around Cyrodiil, to indicate the importance of the Talosian/Emperor cults. Also planning to make a couple of busts at some point. You will likely have to edit the scale for it to fit your plans for Ebonheart. The original should be coming your way in the common data merge, I think.

That is simply marvelous. The statue is a definite must in OE.

You’ve both done excellent work! Thank you.

This looks fantastic!

Does: concepts, textures, youtube vids, admin stuff e.g. PR, handbook, assets, small website things. Activity level: wildly unpredictable. Still active. Find me on Discord.

What do we want to do with this topic, given the PT/TR data merge and the asset browser? Should we put up a requested asset, lock this, or what?

The Talos status is in Tamriel_Data, so that’s one purpose fulfilled.
If there are other statue requests made manifest in the discussion here, they should be added as requested assets.
