For the l33tspeak challenged
I have been exposed to a couple of techie words that I don't know the meaning of.
1. L33T (leet, presumably but what exactly does it mea)
2. pwn (see also: pwned, pwning, pwnage, will pwn, to pwn)
I have a rough idea what these mean based on usage. However, is anyone out there keWL and Ub3R enough to give me a full definion, compleat with etymological information? Just curious.

1337: Hacker "Sp33k" for leet, or elite. Originating from 31337 "eleet", the UDP port used by Dead Cow Cult, a hacker group, to access Windows 95 using Back Orifice, a notorious hacking program.
That's what I was looking for, |\|\/|120|). Thanks for the link. Now I just need to figure out the verb "to pwn"

Stumpy is on the right track here. The only change I would make involves a spiked piece of rusty steel rotated over an industrial gas burner for half an hour. Also it would involve shark bait and cages possibly. In order to become fluent in '1337', you must simply bake your head in the over at 450 degrees for roughly 25-30 minutes
welp

733+ $(_)XX0rz LOL, LMAO, BTW, BRB etc are not leet words. They are Internet abbreviatures to make things shorter. I doubt it will be really fun to write "In my humble opinion" every time instead of IMHO.

IMO, an IMHO mean in my opinion and in my humble opinion respectively.
I understand the benifits of abbr. However, there is something satisfying about using complete words, setences and using punctuation.

if you dont want to write "in my humble opinion", you could just say. "I think"I doubt it will be really fun to write "In my humble opinion" every time instead of IMHO.

The oven and rotating pieces of metal might help for the suicidal 1337 people. Be warned though, if you fail, you will then speak 1337 fluently, instead of being dead.
'What if man is not really a scoundrel - man in general, I mean, the whole race of mankind - then all the rest is prejudice, simply artificial terrors and there are no barriers and it's all as it should be.'
The one and only time I ever use 1337 $p34k is to mock it or a mainstream group of onliners like the mass of tasteless ESF members or Counter-Strike/Day of Defeat nuts who use it.
Even if we digress into such nonsense for common language, there will always be some people with a high enough IQ to speak/type normally. online abbreviations like IMHO etc. are fine of course.

"There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact, it's all dark."
I was 17 when I first got an AIM screenname. The use of numbers instead of letters and brutally stupid abbreviations made me scared. Because typing "LOL" saves SO much more time than "haha". Idiots.
And I would never use IMHO. Nothing I have ever done in my entire life has been humble.

Another tidbit, for the curious. 1337 has two different dialects. The first is the obvious "|-|4><><0|2Z" style. The second, and the one I am more versed in, is the Counter-Strike/MMORPG style "l337 pwn4g3". The CS/MMO style actually uses letters, and rarely are symbols used. For instance:
OMFG j00 1z 73h 50 un1337 134s7ard j00 suxx0rz!!!!!1!1!
Note a few differences. First off, a requirement to learning this language is to actually know it backwards. Notice how in the word "Bastard", I use 4 to replace A, but then use the letter A for the next usage. Sometimes while typing, it becomes necessary to use a few correct letters to speed up this tedious process. Also, for punctuation, it becomes hard to both press down one button while rapidally pressing another, resulting in a few "1"'s showing up witht he exclamation points.
It is theorized that using two fingers at the same time is multi-tasking for anyone dumb enough to write fluently in this dialect, even though it's far easier to learn CS/MMO 1337 than |-|4><><0|2Z
