Concept Photos for Hammerfell

Post by Menotex »

I was browsing photos and thought these would be interesting.

These water wheels pump river water into fields farther inland. They were built in the middle ages but likely match the tech level of the Imperials and would definitely show the relationship between Hammer Fell and Cryodil. Would be seen in the major towns near river/on rivers? *shrug.
And give an impression of wealth then the smaller, more (unhappy) villages.

This is a cave near the ruins of Petra. The cave could house thieves or weary farmers. Maybe a part of a village could rest in the shade of a huge open cave like this.

This is one of Petra’s' doors. Possible gateway into theoretical village stated above. The top would be carved into a more Islamic style, with onion shaped vaults and a spire. Sentry tower nearby could be built right out of the cliff side.

This is a tomb inside Petra. Again the style doesn't quite fit, but we could certainly change the structure to be more Arabic/Eastern Europe. This could be a door way to an inn or public building/guild hall. I like the way it is carved out of the cliff side and the apparent weathering by wind and sand.

I have yet to play OB, but I recall food galore in Morrowind. This is a sweet dish made in the west bank. The baker stands behind. It was made from Oranges, honey, and cheese.

Here you can see assorted cooper goods sold in Aleppo, Syria.
This is a father and son business. I believe they made all of the copper works in their store. I'm an American, thus I’m astounded. The plates and ornament are beautiful and very shiny. While their store is literally falling apart.
Redguards would also be very proud of their crafts and care little for were they sell them. Is there any lore of a mountain city renowned for its copper/tin/silver/even gold work? What kind of metals do Redguards have at the disposal?

Church of St. Mary of Zion in Ethiopia. The windows are what I see as useful for concept. The top structure is also very nice.

http://www.sacredsites.com/africa/ethiopia/images/Church_Bet_Giorgis_Top_H_53kb.jpg

This is a church in Ethiopia carved directly into the bedrock. The church is huge. A possible temple and palace ideas. I don't know what they do for rain water. Likely have drain and a pumping system. This Church intrigues me, I'll do more research.

I hope these pictures help. I'll post more. As I find them.
I searched for an older thread for this and didn't find one. I apologize if this is only spam.

I've got some animals now. Here are pics of Fennecs, kangaroo Mice, and othe dessert lizards.

Fennec

Fennecs are nocturnal and live in groups, they are the smallest fox and vary in color from tan to white-ish.
What if our Fennec doubled as canine companions for tribes out in the desert regions? like hunting dogs, And emergncy food.

Kangaroo Mouse

http://www.florimont.ch/eleves/9900/5_2/delphine/expose/images/Image147.jpg
(This one is huge for some reason.)

http://public.carnet.hr/XIIIgim/pictures/rodents/kangaroo_rat.jpg

Kangaroo Mice are also nocturnal and are most active the two hours after sunset. The don't drink water, as they get their water from seeds and insects.
Are we going to call our jumping mice "Kangaroo Mice" or will we find a more lore abiding name. (Are there Kangaroos in Tanriel?)

Crocodile

We need sea life right? Why not have some Saltwater Crocs? The Nile is sarming with crocs. so they do live in arid regions. Just as long as there is a boby of water, :D

Armadillo Lizard

http://www.asaptours.co.za/gallery/armadillo_lizard.jpg

It curls up and bites it's own tail for defence. Is active during the day. And looks like a dinosour. But if we have an
Armadillo Lizard. We should consider...

Thorny Devil
http://www.ryanphotographic.com/images/JPEGS/Thorny%20Devil.jpg

http://tblogs.bootsnall.com/claudia//archives/thorny.jpg

It truly is one of a kind. This lizard is "Covered" in spines. there are even spines above it's eyes. And like a Cameleon, it changes color depending what type of soil it is on.
Spiny lizards must have a purpose for being spiny.

Komodo Dragon
http://komodotour.com/images/komodo_dragon2.jpg

http://www.idiom.com/~chardlee/baby/lp-komodo.jpg
(It's only a life size statue.)

"Huge", We may not have Dragons. but we do need something fiece beast wise for Hammerfell's desert regions. Komodo Dragons actually live in a rainforrest on a remote island. BUt this in fantasy, right?

Gila Monsters and Tortises would also serve as great reptiles. And it's obvious we need a few snakes. Pics of these and more Arcetecture on the way. Please add anything picture-wise.
The greater the knowledge, the greater the imginaion.
