Civilization IV

Post by Haplo »

Okay own up, how many of you have it, or have played it? Sload, Jelle, and myself are in the middle of a game right now, but we don't really know who else at TR has this game.

Oh and we think it would be awesome if we could get a few more people to play with us, then we could have a real TR online game match or something, because not everyone has Half-Life 2 or Starcraft

I have it, and have played it. I just suck at it.

I'm playing Pharaoh (an game about a decade old) at the moment.

Pharaoh/Cleopatra <3 Sload doesn't like Pharaoh because he sucks at it. I am pretty good, but way better at Caesar III. I'm newbie-ish at Zeus/Poseidon. Anyway back to the topic at hand, CIV IV!!! Get bettuh, and we can play! I'm not really that good either, but I apparently am pretty good at culture. Or Jelle just really sucks at it :-P

Let's just play Alpha Centauri instead. :)

I played it and decided it wasn't fun for me after falling asleep to it. I prefer RTS any day.

I haven't played Age of Empires. I didn't really like Caesar III, and I haven't played either Zeus/Poseidon or the Chinese one they made.

As for the topic at hand, I just generally suck at Civ IV. I can't get better. :] I also haven't got the expansion packs or anything.

I have it, and the two expansions. I love it, and it was a major reason for much slower modding at one stage. I am not terribly good though, I seem to have hit a plateau where further improvement requires much more thought than I think it is worth, and I'm not really willing to do that.

I didn't suck at culture any more after I captured the very nice and cultured city of Paris, but unfortunately I had to give it back because of diplomatic reasons :(

And France has a culture bonus so that's kinda the reason London got close to flipping to you :)

I have Civ 4, but didnt enjoy it as much as the previous games.

Still think the second was best, closely followed by the first. Did not like the third as much, and 4 was just not fun.

I played Civ 2 and still own Civ III. I liked 2 better, and IMHO Alpha Centauri is also better than Civ III.
I'm not buying Civ IV for that reason.

I've recently bought CivCity - Rome, which is just like Caesar III so far, except that you can move the houses above the shops once they evolve into insulae. (which is pretty neat).

Amen to that.

But I'd be up for a match of HL2 sometime if anyone else was.

I have Civ4 plus the expansions on the PC. I've played every incarnation of the game since the very beginning, but i'm still shite at it. Never tried it online.

I love CIV II. I used to make lots of worlds with the editor. E.g. Malacandra from Out of the Silent Planet. I made ice worlds with tundra as the only areable land. I made maze worlds of ocean and land. One of my favourite worlds was where
I made one ring of land in the ocean and placed all civilizations on it.

If there was still an active community I'd see about modding it now.

CIV III's editor was much more sucky and buggy. I did like some of the colony options it had that made the city placement less critical, but overall that didn't way up against the further difficulties the game presented.

CIV IV probably won't even run on my pc.

You can probably play it with an nVidia 6600 card or so (7200 maybe), to be honest. The graphics are nothing to be proud of. It's just RAM, really. Two gigs will cover you fine.

And him and yellow are gonna get their asses handed to them tomorrow.

well I have civ4 but then I started to play a few games then increase the difficulty so i could get better, but then I found my old Morrowind disk and I had to delete civ so I would have enough room for the Morrowind plugins I downloaded without my pc slowing down
