2008 Mod of the Year Awards

Post by Haplo »

It's almost that time again. ModDB is about to open up voting (January 2nd) for the various categories of the Mod of the Year Awards, so don't forget to go vote for Map 2 when the time comes!

http://www.moddb.com/events/2008-mod-of-the-year-awards/promotion

I'll post again on January 2nd to remind everyone.

So if we're already nominated, what do I do? Just wait and vote on the 2nd?
By the way... Do you happen to know what the fine is here in Cyrodiil for necrophilia? Just asking.

Who receives the prize? I mean it's officially for TR but I doubt it would/can be divided amongst all TR modders.

Last time it went to Garfield, since he's the one hosting the site. It made sense.

Last time Garfield got the prize. Who knows what we'll do this year, if we win. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

no. we won the Gamespy mod competition(which only ran once) two years ago, this is the ModDB one(which is annual).

the 6k of stuff is mostly in things like game downloads and DVDs, but there is some real neat stuff that could be used by the team in general (such as massive texture packs and game development tools)

We could donate it to OpenMW or something. Or garfield, since he does, from time to time, work on indie games of his own. I'm sure it would be a nice present, and he could definitely advise us on what to do with it, if not give it to him.

OpenMW is about making a free open source version of Morrowind, so a proprietary engine would be no good to them.

To be honest I already have a license to a much better engine called C4. The torque engine is considered to be pretty terrible in the indie development community.

Problem solved now. I think it's because last time I logged there (to download the official Map2 release package), I was too lazy to retrieve my password and used bugmenot instead; and they must ban regularly all bugmenot accounts. So when I logged this time it acceded the cookie and went all "stop, criminal scum" on me until I deleted its cookie.

Money this time could go to something similar resource-wise, maybe full speedtree libraries?

Or we could just give it to Garf again, the first time probably didn't even come close to making up for our bandwidth costs.

I don't know, $5000/$6000 seems pretty adequate for about 5 years of web hosting to me.

Even at 100 dollars a month, which I don't know of any service that charges that much, that would still be covered, give or take a month. Most services charge 10 dollars or so. While we use more bandwidth than most servers that cost 10 dollars, I doubt it's 100 dollars a month.

But hey I could be totally wrong.
