Gustav's Stuff (Concept Art)

Post by Gustav »

So I posted my first concept art back in november, I got some brilliant responses from other members on the forum that really helped me create some nice work, so thanks again to those guy;D ... But then stuff got real busy so here I am almost a year later with some old and new stuff (created last night as I suddenly remembered this place!) so, enjoy ;)
A Tent, with a shield for when the wind picks up and sand storms start

wow, nice! i particularly like the merchant's tent, the yoku head dress, and the cobra lamp. you certainly have an eye for pattern!

right now we have the city insignia FCG running, you could try your hand at that. you could also try designing some decorative elements for the upper class houses, as you seem to be good at that sort of stuff. or you can do something else for hammerfell, of course :)

welcome!

Cheers Lady, I'll have a look! ;D

Oh, and while I'm at it;
I went through the old TB this morning and found some stuff from my last post and put it back on image shack;

This is like a button/logo/something else thing

Heres some concept for a lighthouse in maybe a southern part of hammerfall(did i spell that right?)

And heres some extension drawings I made on that (forgive me, the scanner was broken at the time)

And lastly, some random armor (lol)

I'd like to see what you'd come up with too.

I really like the cobra oil lamp, very cool indeed.

Thanks, Revenant ;D

I'll have a look to see what ideas I can come up with! But atm I'm looking through everyone else's awesome art (and other forums too) to get a better idea of ... well... everything from the culture, style and so on! Well, that and I just feel so inspired by many of the pieces here, maybe I should go leave some nice comments ;D

It really is cool to see how many people Bethesda have inspired (oops, I used that word twice, too bad I can't think of another word)

I like the picture you used for "trlogo1.jpg" but I'm not entirely sure I like the saying at the bottom "The Elder Scrolls fan project to build the rest of Tamriel"

There's gotta be some way to say the same thing, but using less words. Something a little more catchy perhaps.

Nice art though, keep up the good work!

Thanks Gess (can I call you that?)

I agree, it doesn't really float does it? lol, unfortunately I'm not that brilliant with words! But something might trigger a better sentence to formulate in my little walnut or maybe someone else who does have a silver tongue could lend me a hand ;)

I'm not much with words myself hehe, but it'd be nice to see if anyone can manage to come up with something.

And yes Gess is fine, everyone calls me that, in fact I prefer it over the more commonly used "gesh" or "gessh"

Awesome Gess it is then :)

Indeed, maybe I should put a post up in the Literature and Writing forum, one of those clever peeps would surly be able to think up a little slogan ;D

*EDIT* - Oh yeah, bugga, forgot about posting in other forums XP, no worries ill find another way, probably one which is more open to the general population of TR =D

Ok, so with a ever freindly and useful information of all the peeps above, here was some interior stuff I thought up today =D

Firstly is this four poster bed, now I'm not sure if anyones done any before... but anyway

And I put this up as I don't know why but I'm rather fond of the chair/bed/armchair thing (even if I say so myself)

Great drawings Gustav. I quite like tent nr. 1 and the oil lamp.

Many thanks, Myzel, though I've gotta be honest - I've taken a lot of inspiration form your work - its like some sort of magical well =D

Strange, many people like the lamp... this often happens, stuff that I'm less pleased with others like! Then stuff that I am happy with isn't quite as good, I must have some sort of good taste in my subconscious yet a consciously rubbish one (I'm sitting here in sandals with white socks on - jks)

A more constructive post for you:
It's not just aesthetics or the look of the drawing that I base my choices on, also the general idea of it.

The priestess robe has potential, but it looks a bit too meso-american to me and the mask lacks the specific yoku god imaging, like the eyes.

And I have a tip for you. When it comes to furniture and clothing (and, really, any other specific object) it's good to keep your drawings functional (you know, some clean, straight front and side views (and top and back, if needed)). That way the concept is easier to model. A 3d angle perhaps works best to get the entire concept across, but it's not always sufficient and harder on modelers.
I have that bed or chair or whatever in mind in particular. As it is drawn now it's a pretty unclear concept and I don't think modelers would know what to do with it.
Something to keep in mind when drawing such objects.

Cheers for the tip, very, very appreciated! At the end of the day, the concept art is just the first step to the final, 3D result, so drawing the subject with the modeler in mind makes sense!!! I shall defiantly get to grips with this in any future work, really useful.

But the style of clothing and buildings, ect. - I'm just wondering do you have any particular sources that you base these on, is it much what you imagine the lore to be?

*EDIT*
Heres that oil lamp, revamped =D

I imagined the lamp in solid brass.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of what metal it was in really - Just imagine it in any, lol - its not all that important, but if you think it would look best in full brass, then I guess it probably does - I'll change =D
