I like the black and white version alot more than the coloured - although i think the octopus doesn't necessarily need the diamond as it's a strong enough image in it's own right. It kind of looks like the octopus is swallowing up the diamond, or engulfing it, which wouldn't be fitting for a very imperial city. The imperial aspect is, although present in the insignia, being "played down" as it is now.

I'm more in favour of taking the imperial emblem and yokudifying it abit. Or just throwing up the imperial flag as a statement (how about that very old but very cool looking blue and red one from the screenshot I posted earlier at stros m'kai)

The octopus though - very nice indeed.

Do we have any concepts for flag/banner/plate/whatever-the-insignia-will-be-on shapes? - or is that open for us to play around with too? Having an idea of the shapes we'll be applying the images too would really help.

i was thinking of putting them onto the vanilla cyrodiil ones (check the city insignias, there is a narrow one and a medium one), but i woudnt be opposed to some whole new meshes. in fact, it would probably be better. so yes, some sort of banners/rocks/signs/frescoes or however else you think the raga would show off

I rather like the diamond actually. I think removing the eyes and just using the octopus silhouette would be a little better though.

Oh, so many responses =D Awesomeness!! I'll, em, change the emblem/insignia (I'm not sure which one it is) in favorer of all 3 (or 2, I dunno I'll check up on that in a sec) suggestions and upload them =]. Not tonight though - to late, I'll never get up tomorrow! Thanks too =]

(oh and incase you didn't spot, Revenant, the octopus was Lud's idea. You probably did but I just wanted to make sure - I'd hate to steal any credit from where its due)

Anyhow, gut nacht! (I failed my German GCSEs you probably noticed)

I'm not finished with my octopus yet. I'll soon be posting a version with some extra bells and whistles to make it look a bit more ragaish. Personally, I think it would be useful to have a yoku bannerstyle that the more traditional cities would use.

Apologies for the doublepost, but here it is. This is intended to be used as a traditional Yoku banner.

Any thoughts on it would be appreciated.

I can make more of this style of banner if needs be.

EDIT: two more versions below.

A version of the curly one that includes a modified crown symbol:

The crown on a relatively unadorned octopus:

I'm not sure it would work very well, Lud. The first two are rather un-raga baroque and would also require a pretty big surface to be shown in any sort of detail. From afar they also struck me as a fractal picture, rather than an insignia.

Just as a reminder: I don't think we should be worrying about colors just yet. The idea would be to keep these as simple (black-and-white) vector art, so they can applied to a variety of textures.

I agree with Ada. They don't look particularly Raga to me. The bottom one is probably best in it's simplicity.

Ok, scrap the curly two. What about the simple one? How would you change it?

maybe simplify the two edge spikes? just make them half arrows or something.

anyways, just in terms of art i really like the 1st two, but i agree that they are too complex to be effective insignia.

Position it straight vertically as though you were making it symmetrical. The tentacles can and probably should be positioned differently on each side to make it look a bit more natural.

btw, what's the significance of the octopus to Taneth? or does it just look cool?

Symmetrical? Bleurgh.

The octopus doesn't have any particular significance to Taneth. Expect a new version of this soon.

In the meantime, here's a Dragonstar emblem based on Lute's Satakal emblem and Nomadic's idea of using Satakal as the dragon in such an emblem. The star is a Nautilus-like spiral one.

Any and all opinions welcome.

Elements of this depiction of Satakal can be easily inserted into all sorts of things.

get rid of the little triangles around the star in the middle and that star by itself is pretty damn cool!

Personally IMO, Lutemoth's design serpent thing is okay, but I think its just too circular... circles everywhere @_@, it needs to have a bit more edge or character to it.

Idea for the Nordic side of Dragonstar. This came after reading Children of the Sky and it's basically a star shaped by snake tongues (representing the Nords beating the Redguards).

Obagovo could you possibly remake that star so that it has your "snake tongues" endings but in the shape of Lud's nautilus star shape?

And maybe vice versa to you Lud, if you have the time.

I'm really liking that Nautilus star alot. :)

Attempt to integrate Lud's star with my own:

May be a bit late, but I actually like that design Obagovo.

I've had an idea myself for an insignia for Elenhir. So I toyed around in some kind of terrible photo manipulation program that came with my office install (no photoshop atm). The result works but may not be symmetrical.

And a couple of insignia ideas for a coastal city:

The swords look pretty good. I also like the look of the ships, but they don't seem very insignia-ish. Keep up the good work.

Possible insignia for Elinhir, the sword is a skyrim influence and the crescent moon and stars are put in because Myzel suggested it in the first post:

That has a very nice look to it. The only critique I can think of is lore-related: Since Elenhir is completely under Redguard control a nord inspired sword doesn't really fit. A more minor problem: Elenhir also has no particular connection to the stars, so I'd replace them with something more fitting (just leave them if you can't think of anything better).
The moon crescent I suggested is a symbol for the crescent shaped valley in which the city is built, the sun symbol relates to Elenhir because it lies in the east, where the sun rises.

Oh, and I also think the eh... bloodspatter(?) where the sword slices through the crescent is not really necessary. It doesn't add anything to the design.

Overall it's a nice design though. Keep it up.

Okay, so I switched the sword so its Yokudan style. I made the stars into little four point thingys that are supposed to resemble suns, but it could be a little abstract. I was thinking maybe snowflakes cause its up north and inbetween some mountains but that could be un-redguardish. Also eliminated the splatter stuff:
