Though these are good drawings, I don't see how they could apply to Hammerfell. It would probably be best to keep non-TR concept art in your showcase.

As Hemitheon said, this forum is only for concept art, which is always TES related. The concept art forum is not the place to post drawings that are unrelated to our project.

Your drawings look good though. It would be great if you took some time to draw some new art for us; concept for Hammerfell.

while these are all very good creatures , they dont fit into the morrowind lore ,

for instance adding creatures such as the basalisk which is well known in mythology would make morrowind/oblivion feel to much like earth.

if you want to do creature designs look at the lore of morrowind/oblivion and try to come up with something of your own.

that half spider human , is already too much like a daedra, if you really do like designing creatures then you should read up about quagmire and try to design creatures for it.

and as always check the Focused concept art threads for some direction.

Didn't even notice this thread yet... kind of confusing that you have two of them.

Anyway, those creatures are really well drawn. Again, good drawing skills. Sapien does have a point, though I don't think it's wrong to design creatures based on mythological beasts. After all, Oblivion featured trolls, will-o-the-wisps, goblins, and even fucking minotaurs (curse them).
I think a basilisk can be a fitting creature for Hammerfell.

Now to give you some constructive criticism: In my opinion, such creatures do need a unique creative touch (something the mentioned bethesda beasts really lacked). Kind of like the way Lute drew his harpy and medusa. For example, your basilisk looks just like a big cobra and your naga looks like a clone of the warcraft creature. You should try to make them look unique somehow. Make them look strange or scary. Impress the player. I think that's what Sapien meant with creatures 'feeling too much like earth'.

Actually, to my knowledge, all of the creatures depicted exist in TES Lore with the exceptions of the Arachnos, (though a similar critter exists), and the Basilisk. Ironically the Basilisk is the only real world mythological creature Necrofear drew that doesn't look like its mythological counterpart which, while having snake-like features, bears a closer resemblance to a rooster. :P

I actually agree, though. While there are real life and mythological creatures in TES they're easy enough to make. It's more important to draw creatures of our own imagining, so that we can fill up Hammerfell with unique monsters. :D

These are 3 Quagmire creatures i've created.
Could somebody tell if the Quagmire belong to Peryite or to Vaermina??
I'm learning to paint with Photoshop, so comment :)

Wow! Very nice and detailed. I'm pretty sure you can get promoted sooner or later. I'm not a lore expert, but how about giving a try to something that is more important for TR right now than quagmire? :)
PoHa: how can we best this trio of trouble? who will save us from this menace of sub-par models? what will we do?
PoHa: I know! we'll shoot an Aro at them
Aro: you have only one Aro missile!
PoHa: yes, but its heat seeking and quite possibly indestructible

Very cool designs. You've put a lot of effort in them.
Though the Quagmire design could be implemented a bit better on their armors and whatnot. In the end that style should be similar for each Quag creature I think. :)
But overall, good work.

And please don't create a new thread every time. Post all your work in one thread. That helps to keep the forum clean and tidy.

You definitely are skilled, and would make a great addition to our group of artists. To answer your question, Quagmire is Vaermina's domain; Peryite's is The Pits if I'm not mistaken.

Bit of advice on your Quagmire creatures, while the use of color is always welcome, the colors seem to be too warm and bright overall. Also, when using yellow, don't make it the main color and use it for an outline (similar to Lutemoth's Gifter).

Keep up the good work, I look forward to more of your stuff.

Hammerfell & Quagmire

Post by Necrofear »

Hello everyone, i'm back.
I made some new drawings and painted some old ones, here they are...

HAMMERFELL:

Basilisk (2.0)
I have done a Basilisk some time ago, but somebody said that it looked loke a rooster xD So i've made another one :)

Desert Creeper:
This one sould be annoying group hunters that keep on jumping behind you and bitting you "rear" xD

Harpy:
The coloured version of the sexy Harpy, you could find these around oasis.

Phoenix:
Some friends told me that it looks like a Pokemon xD
Anyway, i think it would be awesome to see one flying around
the deserts of Hammerfell.
It could be a passive creature thet only defends itself when attacked.

Sand Reaper:
The wandering undead traveling through the desert looking for the next kill.

Vizier:
Ruin guardians, 50% warrior 50% spellcaster 100% undead xD

Wyrm:
And to finish the gigantic firebreathing Wyrm.
I liked so much the one from the Battle for Middle-Earth II, that i needed to see one in Oblivion, so, i made a slightly different version of it.

QUAGMIRE:

Berseker:
Only this one for now.
Both strong and scary... Huh... I've just wetted my pants just to think of him xD

That's it for now, wait for the next post, and feel free to comment ;)

Lol! Gnomey didn't mean your basilisk looked like a rooster. He meant that basilisks as they are originally depicted in medieval bestiaries often resemble roosters. Like this.

I really like the vizier, personally. I think the wyrm looks too much like things from dune or dungeons and dragons.

I fixed your post. When using ImageShack, please use the thumbnail text, so you'll get something like this:

Code: Select all

Now, this is important:

Copy/paste this code, and edit it so that the URL link is the same as the IMG link, without the "th." :

Code: Select all

In this way, you'll bypass the very annoying "my.php" page which simply doesn't work on my computer.

Sekhtari:

Gorgon:
It's Gorgon and not Medusa, because Medusa was a Gorgon

More Stuff

Post by Necrofear »

I'd like to thank everyone for the help and the comments, and i also like to say to Gnomey that i am not offended at all xD
I will now make the description of the cretures on the last post because i haven't time to make it before.
Here it goes:

HAMMERFELL:

Sekhtari:
This was meant to be a Giant Scarab, like the ones we see in Age Of Mythology, but i couldn't resist to make a humanoid abmination lol...
I made up the name Sekhtari, it just came to my mind and i liked it xD
Oh.. And it's Sekhtari and not Sektari, like Achmed ;)

Living Sands:
This is some kind of spirit that pulls the adventurers towards a slow death unders the desert sands.

Gorgon:
As i said, it's called Gorgon and not Medusa...
Medusa could be a Quest Boss or something for us to kill.
It would be cool if she (and the Basilisk) could cast some petrifying spells :)

Genie:
It look mystic and gay at the same time xD lool...
I think it looks cool anyway.

QUAGMIRE:

Crrawler:
Another Quagmire (I'm loving ti draw them), this looks like a worm, it should be found in underground crypts and wet/dirty places.

Now here's some more:

We tend to veer away from overly D&Dish/classic mythology things. For example, the Medusa (name in Arena, sorry, not Gorgon) is now the Mad Hoosa, and looks like this (old model with placeholder textures):

Back Again

Post by Necrofear »

Sorry for taking so long to post my new stuff, but now here they are:

Manticore:

Three rows of teeth and a poisonous stinger to hunt down unware adventurers.

Runner:

I named it Runner because i don't have any good name for it.
It's cool if it can be mounted.

Katoh:

No comment... A bit stupid, i know, but it look so funny on my head that i needed to draw it!!! xD

Quagmire Shredder:

This should be a fast moving beast and it could slide towards the enemy ripping the floor and living sparks behind! :p

That's all for now, wait for the next post!

I think the shredder has some interesting features. Do you mind if I continue on your concept a bit? I think I could change it to fit with the approved quagmire creatures a little better.

Those concepts are awesome :-O
while these are all very good creatures , they dont fit into the morrowind lore ,

for instance adding creatures such as the basalisk which is well known in mythology would make morrowind/oblivion feel to much like earth.
Morrowind and Battlespire are the only games whos bestiary wsa 90% unique. Arena, Dagerfall and Oblivion are filled with classical creatures (centaurs, lizardmen, medusas, harpies, minotaurs, giants...).
Also, the basilisk looks like something that would fit nicely into deserts and jungles of Hammerfell.
After all, Oblivion featured trolls, will-o-the-wisps, goblins, and even fucking minotaurs (curse them).
Minotaurs were introduced in Arena. We should regard them as national treasure, not curse them :P
Goblins made an appearance in Arena, Tribunal and Oblivion.
Trolls were introduced in Arena and their name was used in spells in all games (Troll's Blood).

So, I don't see why everyone blames Oblivion for having classical creatures. It is quite obvious that Tamriel has both classical and unique creatures living in it.
Don't look at me. I am mad!

Because they'd started to move away from that with Morrowind, and the world was becoming more interesting as a consequence. Oblivion was a step backwards.

I think traditional monsters are okay if they're creatively reinterpreted though. Like the Mad Hoosa.

Indeed. I don't blame Beth for using classical creatures. I blame them for doing nothing creative with them. And in that aspect, the minotaurs are the worst of all. In Oblivion they look like the comic stereotype of the mythical monster. It's a silly and out-of-place design, not a national treasure.

I toyed with your concept a bit and this is the result. As usual I changed a lot more than I intended to, and it's actually become a totally different creature inspired on yours. Not very useful I suppose. At least I did have fun with it.

The vagineye dentata is integral to Quagmire creatures design. Disturbing, corrupted Freudian imagery and nightmares go hand in hand.

It's good, but I liked the "eye held by hands" thing. I think you could have kept it despite the vertical eye by having the hands joined in prayer. It would be somewhat reminiscent of one of your own creatures, except without the head, just the hands and forearms instead of the neck.

Is TR doing a venture into Quagmire, or any of the other Daedric Realms? I seem to remember talk of this before, like having some quests take place in Sanguine's pleasure pockets or some of the other realms.

I'm back!

Post by Necrofear »

Hi everyone, i've been missing for a long time, busy with band problems and other stuff...
But i'm back now, and i'm aware of some of the news, but not all...
First i'd like to congratulate Myzel for the promotion, some time ago he was redrawing a concept of mine (Shredder) and now he is the big boss! xD lol...
Seems like you're working on Morrowind, besides Hammerfell, so, i've made only two concepts for now.
I've made a royal guard for Hammerfell and dome kind of death knight for Morrowind.
Here they are:

Red Royal Guard

I've thought this one to be a regular guard, but it came out with an armor a bit fancy and maybe to expensive for all gurads to wear, so, i've played around with the name of the Hammerfell dominant race and named it Red Royal Guard lol...
I've also made that halberd-like weapon, but in case that the project does not include polearms to the game, you could simply make it shorter and turn it to a war axe, as i drawned below.
My idead for the materials of the weapon and armor are:

- The white stuff would be ivory, taken from an elephant or similar creature;
- The shield could be made of an insects chitin, like a giant scarab or so (like the ones in Age of Mythology);
- The golden stuff can be just steel with golden paint xD;
- The red cloth could be anything, i don't really know wich material is more suitable to wear under the desert sun.

As you can see, the materials are quite expensive (mostly the ivory), so, maybe the guards that use this gear could only be found defending castle doors or bodyguarding important people.

Dark Elven Death Knight

The guys that wear this should be like the Dark Elven elite force, maybe acting as officers overlooking patroling guards, never patroling themselves.
For what i've read, seems that the Dark Elves are really protective when it comes to their ancestores, so, we could put the death knights guarding high importance cerimonial places and burial grounds.
By the way, what's the correct word to say:
"Elven" or "Elvish"? xD loool...

That's all for now. Please comment, and if someone need me to draw something, just ask.

I'm back! xD looool.....

Hey, welcome back.

I took the liberty of adding thumbnails to your post. The images were so big that they were stretching the forums. You might want to make a habit of posting thumbnails or links instead of images.
Your drawings look great though. I like that redguard red guard. The death knight, not so much. I'm not sure if you've played morrowind, but the dunmer are far from the average high fantasy dark elf.

oh, and thanks for the congrats.

Yeah, I actually lied. I was sure that you hadn't played the game. The skin colour gave it away. :P

In my opinion you should play Morrowind before Oblivion.

I think you've got some really cool stuff. Like the others said, you should definitely veer away from traditional monsters. I think that traditional creatures that have been modified are way cooler than newly made up creatures (like the nix-hound). I remember being amazed by the Mad Hoosa because of how awesome and terrifying it was. Keep up the good work! :)
You'll see, I'll show you, that these, uh, civilized people? They'll eat each other. You see, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve.

Most of your drawings are interesting to me, congratulations.
I agree with Gez on the Shredder, I like both concept and sketch, though I would like to understand how does he move with these strange legs. Just curious. :)

You know what's also popular? Enormous flying cities and ridable dragons. Maybe TR should invest in navigable ships and underwater cities.

Shredder could walk on walls (or even maybe ceilings) by "stabbing" limbs in surfaces. Some surfaces could be impenetrable for him so his movement would be limited or something. It would be cool if he could jump off ceiling on player (dramatic introduction :))... Or sharping his blades against each other. Just some ideas...

Just one question... Do I need to have my own showcase thread to post or I can just post without it? Because my laptop is currently broken and without it I can't do anything. When I get it I'll post some of my drawings or something. For now, suffice to say that I'm not especially good at drawing, but I have a sick imagination and could help with Quagmire.
