Map 3 NPC Claim #3 [Tondollari]

Post by Haplo »

Map:

Thirr River Valley

River Map:

(Rivers in GREEN must be removed. Rivers in BLUE must be added. Rivers in BLACK already exist and should remain extant.)

Claimant should match this to the latest A2 and A6 files. Also, you'll need to match your western border with the appropriate Map 4 claims.

Bit late here, but I'd have thought it should be suitably impressively wide on both sides of the river. Modders' discretion, or do we prefer to have strict boundaries in mind before it's opened for claiming.

Having an updated Dwemer satellite shot would help with decisions.

I would say leave it to the modder's discretion, with the caveat that we need a wide river. Any modder who claims it will be competent anyway. Unless anyone has some objects, I'll be opening this up for claiming probably tomorrow or sometime soon (and any uncertain regions should match what's already being done around it, since all the surrounding claims are underway).

With "wide river" I guess we are agreeing that it should be enough for two ships to pass properly? At some points between 4-13 and Aevens detailing claim it has got a few narrow points and dangerous rocks (with shipwrecks below surface). Mostly though, it's +/- one cell wide. And that's way more than we had before.

I was thinking almost a cell wide. That should be enough for several ships to pass by each other. It's the biggest river in the province; I feel like it should be treated similar to the Mississippi River here in the states; for much of its length, you can't see from one bank to the other. Obviously MGE removes viewing distance issues, but the effect should be similar. (You can't jump it without Icarian Flight or similar incredi-strong spell)

Wondering: could I take this and merge with A2, and work on it as a single thing? It'd make it a lot more consistent as a region.

I wouldn't have anything against that, and consistency is one of our key objectives. But are you up for it? :)

As long as you keep the files actually (literally) separate, you can claim both and work on them together for the sake of consistency. But they should be updated separately.

Then that's what I'll do :) Claiming.

Is it okay for me to merge and later split?

As far as my plan goes: make everything east of the former river a mountainy area with nice patches of green/light forest between. The current Indoril farm will be such an area, with perhaps paths to other such areas owned by the same Indoril person.

West of the former river will be TRV area, but be more like the sparser close-to-mountain areas as seen in 4-13 than the more lush A2.

Granted.

You are allowed to merge and split as much as you like during the modding, as long as you split the files when uploading a WIP. With simple cell naming that shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes in tesame.

Plus, and this is important, I want the south-eastern east bank cells to have a steadily increasing height in terms of landscape. Please make this transition smooth starting in 8 -30.

How far south does the TRV region go? I ask because I fear it'll go too far south to Lake Andaram, and I can imagine that having a different region.

I'm fairly certain it extends to that lake, is there some reason you think it shouldn't?

I wasn't too sure, and I ask because it can be hard to make such a vast region not too monotonous.

Yeah like the ashlands on Vvardenfell? But the only issue is that it might get slightly more wetlands-like and less fertile valley-like in the immediate area surrounding the lake due to it being standing water.

The lake doesn't start until -33. Your claim is down to -31, so you don't have to have that much regional changes.

So I don't have a transitional area on my hands? If I do, I'd really like to know what your plans for Lake Andaram are. (I for one would love wetlands.)

Don't worry about a transition. Any transition will be minimal, and is as of yet undecided, as far as this claim is concerned.

In the southernmost cells, could you make a slight transition as shown on this picture?

As you can see the transition is to use more orange version of these trees (no WG-trees this far south) and GL_grass_01 (it matches the ai grass nicely).

At the southernmost cell it should be more than 50% of the grassy area, so I guess base.

Hey Cat, a suggestion: move the TRV area a bit back to the west, the region is FAR too large, and it doesn't make sense. My suggestion is to enlarge the mountain region, and dot it with small grassy areas throughout.

Part of the point of the TRV was to break up the endless repition of WG mountains all over TR. I'd keep as much AI valley stuff as you can, even if it's not directly built around tributaries from the Thirr.
