Can I have this claim?

I will stick to the style the ornate stones on Solstheim have, similar texture, just different motifs, different stones.

As for the runes seen on the menhir on the left, I should use draconic, right? Or should I avoid actual writings?

Granting. What do you mean by Draconic? The language of the dragons?

I'm pretty sure he meant the nordic/draconic signs from TESV. I myself am not a fan of that (George Lucas is a dick and just because Beth made up something new doesn't mean we suddenly have to include it) and I'd much rather stick to illegible rune-like signs or morrowind-texture-illegified renditions of the new alphabet but I remember discussing it with TF, who unlike me was rather fond of the idea. So you should probably listen to him instead of me. This isn't my area, anyway. :P

That's ok. I will not be using draconic on those stones then.

I should say one thing right away:

This an exercise for me. I cannot promise I'm going to produce the desired result right away. But I already have a wip using some kind of placeholder-motif, without a graffiti yet:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22362022/pics/wip.jpg

I also pmed Nalin as he has drawn the concept and asked if he was prepared to draw a proper motif for me that I can lay over the rock-texture. So the wip merely shows what I could achieve so far in laying a motif on the rock.

That shot looks pretty well-done to me, Worsas. Graffiti-d stones will look a little different, but it looks like you've got the hang of this

Is what I came up with.

It's not set to that background texture - it's an overlay layer so it can be thrown over whatever type of rock texture we want.

This is indeed the kind of stuff I have been hoping for.

As I told you by pm, it would be great if I could get two or three more motifs of that kind from you. But, well, take your time and if you don't feel like doing it at all, I will find my way around.

This is what i have accomplished so far.

At first, I was wondering if I should stick to the bloodmoon-rock-texture, but this would have been at the cost of compatibility with any solstheim rock-texture replacement that would ever be used.

And Nalins motif just works better with a smooth rock texture anyway, like this one I have stolen from wolli-dude.

Edit:

Another rock using more defined edges, viewed from a side-angle. Taken in the cs, therefore the different lighting:

Cool :-) I especially like Edit2's picture. I wonder how the first two would look if the overlaid image was more faded?

Woah, those are pretty cool. The tribunal hand seen as a face tattoo on some Dunmer NPCs would probably make a good graffiti symbol too :)

The vallagh is one of our prehistoric monsters at Shotn. Your motif definetively comes close enough to Dirnaes implementation of that concept.

Edit:

And it looks brilliant.

I wasn't expecting that texture to look that good but it actually works really well the way you've set it up there with the wider rock.

Edit: Anyone have any suggestions for further menhir carvings?

I was actually thinking that it might be a bit paradox to use Lorkhan as a "grafitti against Nords". On the other hand, I think the lorkhan-motif in particular looks quite good here.

But if one of the people in here thinks it should get replaced by something else, please suggest a different motif.

Tomorrow I'm going to upload a wip.

Fantastic! Personally I like the ones in the back the best, but that's just because of the base rock texture and how it blends with the graffiti texture.

Updated the claim with a backup of all the rocks in the front-row + plain-versions of them.

The Antlers of the deer-motif are a bit stretched due to lacking space and Cylinder-Mapping but making the mapping bigger, again turns the deer into a dwarf. I could give it another go but unless you are bothered about that detail, I would like to leave it as it is right now.

I have been wondering if I should still pursue Bloodmoon-style rocks as you can see them in the background, but I'm lacking motifs that actually work on that rock-texture. You might just treat my stones as if they had been carried to Resdayn from Skyrim. Idk.

If you are still interested on that rock on the left in the background, here it is:

These are going to look so good embedded into the ground with a little vertex shading around them - Even better with grass mods. I'm really looking forward to seeing some finished in game screens of them. Simple but good looking, not unlike myself...wait

If I could make one comment, I would suggest to tilt the Dunmer imagery a bit in various directions. Currently, the graffiti is all more or less perfectly up right. From a distance, or for someone not very familiar with this imagery, it would almost appears as if the point of the stone is to showcase the Dunmer art. If you rotate it a bit, and add some more imperfections (smears etc.) to the graffiti, it will look more like it was applied carelessly and quickly, unambigously suggesting it was meant to deface the Nord stonework under it.

Also, use this.

Otherwise, very good.

If the texture/graphics could be modified so that the eyes of some of the Nordic carvings were scratched out, that would be quite cool. You never know who might be looking through those eyes, after all.

As those are already scratchy I will merely blur(stencil) them a bit before I apply them on the stone, but otherwise they are already smeary, like they should be. I would merely crappify them, if I screwed around with them.

Thanks to you two for handing me those, they look great.

Those look awesome! I have one request: could you lower the graffiti text on the middle stone? Right now it looks a little odd so high up.

Is this coming in a set along with the nordic stones sans graffiti, too?
