For those too lazy to remove broken URL tags http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2012/05/03/june-cover-revealed-the-elder-scrolls-online.aspx

I am feeling neutral in this. Molag Bal trying to pull Nirn or Tamriel into his realm sounds like something that would require some mention in previous lore though.

This is weird. The link works without tags, but breaks with tags... What?

Hurray! Finally an elder scrolls game with the immersion-breaking, trolling and lolling retards the previous installments lacked!

Can't say I'm very interested in actually playing the game but I am curious about what Bethesda's take on the Morrowind Mainland will be.

The article says the game will be set about a thousand years before Skyrim, so we'll be seeing what Morrowind was like without all those pesky outlanders around. 8)

Since it is Zenimax Online, we have no idea how much cooperation they did with Bethesda concerning the lore and locations. They might have hired some lorebuff that actually knows better than what Bethesda remembers. But it is more likely that they think Khajiit live in giant litterboxes.

Surely someone at Zenimax will know of the existence of the UESP and TIL, and will have stumbled upon the 1st PGE.

Surely...?

On another note, theories on the Imperial Library chat channel are running plausably, referring to the upcoming Akaviri invasion having the spoken language of such events eaten, which is why we have not heard of such a thing in any lore.

Supposedly the Dunmer, Nords, and Argonians are allied in "The Ebonheart Pact". Ugh, if Morrowind lore were dead it'd be spinning in its grave.

Regardless, I'm sure of one thing:

TR Morrowind >>> TESO Morrowind

Not even the full power of the Tribunal could do Her city greater justice.

At least, this could be a great chance for TR people to play a game together online to which we can all relate!

We can group lol at their sucky low detailed, small scaled, generic looking worldspace.

THEN project aedra goes live and billions flock to our servers to play our province in multiplayer.

Apparently the factions divide as thus:
Nords, Dunmer, Argonians
Altmer, Bosmer, Khajiit
Redguard, Orsimer, Breton

Roleplaying servers can be fun though. The Dunmer going about calling all Argonians mindless beasts of fodder. The largest problem for me is that it might be possible that I can not play Battlemage. I do not like that.

I never cherished the idea of a Elder Scrolls MMO, but after reading the gameinformer article I think it will be worse than I expected...

The strange alliances, the look of the game... But the worst thing has to be the plot involving the Tharn family, Mannimarco e Molag Bal, wtf? They could as well just throw Ur, Camoran, the sload and Fargoth into the mixed bag of baddies.

I've really low hopes for this game. But as long as it doesn't interfere with the development of the main series, I can live with it.

Well, it's a relief Bethesda isn't making this, but Zenimax Online or whatever it's called. Skyrim is still ok in my book, although not perfect.

But the screenshots they've provided so far. Why? Why why why?
Why does MMOs have to look like a 2005ish suckfest? Cartoony and with the horrendous near-and-fakely-tall-looking mountains. I mean, did they learn nothing from the good looking sceneries of Skyrim? Of course, judging by the fact this game has been in development for quite some time I can understand (to some extent) the lacking visuals, but come on...

You know, it actually doesn't look like WoW at all, instead it comes across as an interpretation of Elder Scrolls themes within more generic Asian MMO art design. Can't say I'm surprised, since the idealized, plastic look seems to be what all the cool kids in MMOland are going for these days, overtaking the cartoony WoW-style. If only this project was started after GW2 hits the market, now THAT game has an art style I'd like to see in more places, apart from, again, the plastic faces. Though I'm not sure if any MMO art style would be appropriate for TES.

Can't say I've lost faith in TES in any way. This was a long time coming, and the art direction is as expected, at least for me. I'm not terribly excited, but it isn't the end of the world either.

So the thing is you can travel from locations to location, judging from the list; mournhold; ebonheart; riften; etc. Prob. a city with some area around it to fight monsters like all mmo's.

Did they just group them according to provincial borders and pay no attention to whether they despise each other or not?

It looks like LOTRO... Looks like I'll be missing the next ES game then, sad. I guess this continued degradation is why most of use are still in Morrowind.
And that's how you get to Llama School.

Well, Nords and Argonians would probably flock to the Dunmer for protection, since the Tribunal are alive and at full-power, since Dagoth Ur has yet to wake up.

I thought Nords had a strong hatred of the Tribunal as well? At least Wulfarth did... Also Argonians.

That said could be interesting; the only thing to sway me to would be Elder Scrolls.

Is it illegal for an MMO to have a realistic artstyle or something? C'mon, they promise us the whole of Tamriel and then give us some weird cartoony interpretation.

That said, the shot of the Ordinator and the Indoril city did make me squee a little. I honestly do think this could be fun too, even if it's not exactly how I'd have done it.

The rumours of an elder scroll MMO have been circulating for quite a while but honestly I never thought they were actually true. Or maybe that was just wishful thinking.

This all sounds even worse than I expected. Here I was regaining my faith in the franchise with Skyrim not sucking. I guess it shouldn't be hard to ignore this thing but as a fan I can't help but feel a little insulted.

From 'a thousand years before Skyrim' and 'imperial throne is empty' i see few potential dates this game may take place without raping the lore too much.
First is 2E 431+ just after assasination of last akaviri potentate. There is an almost 130 'empty' years before start of Knahaten Flu.
Second - there is more than 250 'empty' years after failed akaviri invasion before formation of Aldmeri Dominion.

On no mention in lore: from article i got the impression, that Molag Bal operates behind the scenes and the plot is secret to 'normal' denizens of Tamriel (aka non-players). Or they will just squeeze a dragon break somewhere.

On factions:
Nord-Dunmer-Argonians ... they border each other?
Altmer-Bosmer-Khajiit this one basicly Aldmeri Dominion with khajiit thrown in for good measure. (Elsweyr was allied with Dominion later so its kind of lore-friendly)
Redguard-Orsimer-Breton ... they also border each other?
Apparently whole Cyrodiil is battleground and Skyrim is too mainstream :P

On artstyle: afaik its impossible to make mmo with cutting edge graphics without suffering latency issues.

Finally there is one aspect in all this that may sell me this game - you can't make mmorpg as console port :)

Online TES game...

Just that is enough to make me lose hope and then they add these 3 races as allies...

Nords, Dunmer, and Argonians

Something tells me this ain't right. Dunmer and Nords warred in the past(unless I'm mistaken), and the Dunmer enslave Argonians... I think this is a recipe for disaster.

Nords are quick to forge alliances with their most hated enemies. That's just the way they are. The Argonians probably did not have a choice in the matter and the playables are mostly mercenaries and slave-warriors.

Plus, with the Tribunal at full power and Dagoth Ur still asleep, the Dunmer are a serious force to be reckoned with.

Good points :o!

To be honest though, it still sort-of bugs me. I'm wondering why they chose these races to be allies and why they decided to have the game be set in the 2nd era.

Well it is possible that much of the game is region based (etc hostile, friendly regions) and so it makes somewhat more sense do use bordering regions as allys.
Well they probably did went into 2 era in creation of game to use more of the game lore, if they had gone into future or moved on so to speak, they would have to create more new lore

You mixed up the names of myself and The Unending in your quotes.

It is almost always useful to be able to help your allies without having to storm through enemy lands to get there.

I now want to write a temple propaganda/history book explaining in great detail why the Ebonheart Pact never really happened and it's all a lie spread by those pesky foreigners trying to undermine the authority and power of the Tribunal.

But I'll wait until the game actually comes out so I can understand the whole story.

I am quite sure the Temple would write about in the light of the Nords and Argonians kneeling to the three true gods and submitting themselves to their service willingly.
