Personally, I like it. But I think it could look a bit less photo-realistic.

Nice to see you around Lutemoth, I've greatly enjoyed looking over your past work. :D

You know what? Comparing it to the Sacred East cover art, I think I like your first version better, lol.

Those go pretty well together, IMO.

One thing that just caught my eye: the Sacred East art switches the House names around, putting Dres up at the top. Wouldn't it be interesting if it put Indoril or something at the top?

Funny. Beth's art has them with Dagoth on top.

Code: Select all

R DAGOTH I
E N
D D
O O
R R
A I
N L

H T
L E
A L
A V
L A
U DRES N
We've had DRES and DAGOTH switched around since Telvannis.

(They should have put the Telvanni above the Indoril. That way, it would have been a very rough fit to the geography of the province.)

The names of the houses do stick out a bit. Maybe loose the dropshadow a bit? Or add some texture to it. But it looks fine anyway. :)

@Lutemoth: Nice work, I like the color choice. I also like that you chose Almalexia's mask as the item to fill the seal. I think it's very appropriate!

Heya Lute! Absolutely fantastic to see you! 2013 must be the oldbies-return-to-TR year. :) And yes, come back plz.

As for your image, it's really nice! I bloody love the alma mask illustration. Maybe if you could bring that out a tad?

Not entirely sold on the text and bronze though. I don't see it much in Indoril, maybe go for the grey-ish walls by desaturating it instead of the bronze.

As for the text, this is a quick hackjob I threw in with Garamond. You can use the png in yours if you wish. The drop shadow doesn't look as strong when put on a grey-ish background. And eventually I'll get to fixing that line in "Dres" when I have time.

Image

And tumblr user Markelius (known to many as SWG) is taking it a step further by remaking those cool patterns behind the text that are in the original logo. If we combine my textures with hers, and I think we have ourselves a very faithful rendering of the original MW text.

Anyways that's just my two cents, it's up to you though. It's lovely as is.

I really like those. Like, I like-like them in a let's-go-steady sort of way.

played around with both of them for a quick look:

tooled around with the embossed sketch and blanked it for others to play with :D

Oh yes that's so much better. Still not too sure about blue. I was thinking the grey of the indoril buildings. And the daedric font is now sorta lost amongst the green. Also the narrower text seems *slightly* inconsistent with the morrowind logo. I'd keep the aspect ratio the same, but mayhaps that's a personal aesthetic choice?

As for the emboss vs black, both look good to me. I can't really decide.

Anyways don't take my words too closely, I'm just being nitpicky again. :P

Hey mang, critique is important. If a picture doesn't have at least a dozen revisions, it could stand to improve :)

Suddenly, a warm grey becomes strangely familiar. Glad I found this repoussé'd bronze texture, it works well as filler

HAH.

I was just twiddling with your file and the colour I came up with is almost exactly what yours is. (Edit: Though I think yours is better so slightly as it still has a tiny hint of colour in it.)

The subtle hint towards green is what it needed. I added my original font on the daedric, but mimicked it to your font's contrast and hue. Only diff' is spacing like the vanilla title. Dres is back on the bottom in lieu of Indoril being at the top.

I think we're on a roll here. Next title definitely has to have SWG's typography, for sure - unless she might happen upon this, in which case you two should combine your planeteer rings. I would love set templates for map titles.

Much better! If I am not shy, I will give a shout to SWG about this on her tumblr.

I think the DRES and INDORIL margins are a little too tight though. Perhaps expanding the image slightly by 10 pixels top and bottom would help. Also if you have the bare templates for your old designs for Telvannis, AS, and SE, perhaps I can update the fonts on those too for consistency's sake :)

Oh man, those are wonderful. very vibrant!

I actually quite liked the originals though, the prominent contrast of the colours are pretty much what Copper as a metal does when it ages, so it has a before and after sort of feel :p

Regardless, Awesome work. :D

I kinda like the original color scheme as well. But I think the new scheme matches Almalexia as a city, more thematically. BUT, I think the old scheme fits Almalexia as a god more thematically... but both themes do have her mask front and center. :D

I'm ever so glad you manage to give a sign of life once in a while, Lutemoth.

I personally lean more towards the later iterations of the design. "Verdigris" is the keyword, I think. Maybe one way to include some more colored accents is to go with the verdigris theme and use a more yellow-bronzish color on certain details. E.g. in the grooves that form Alma's mask, where the oxidation might not reach. Or make the House names recessed into the background and do that with them.Or like in real life sculpture, makes patches where repeated rubbing prevented discoloration.

I think the bright copper background distracts from the central image a bit. Maybe return to the grey-green version, but keep the details as you have them here? (I'd demonstrate, but without the source file, a mockup would take too long. :P)

Or perhaps have weak tinges of copper over the grey. Hinting at Almalexia's decline as a godess.

It might be nice to see what it would look like with the copper details on the text and frame here, but with the grey background, and no copper on the triangle/Almalexia. I think this is what Adanorcil is suggesting too...

I don't think Almalexia or her tusks, as seen here, are an improvement over your previous iterations. Or maybe it's just the tusks I don't like. I can't tell.

got rid of the tusks altogether, as it was honestly shoehorning them into the design.

I like the overall idea, but I got a few points of criticism (warning, eye of the beholder talking here):

- Some of them strike me as a little overly photorealistic. On the Dres one in particular, I get a feeling of a photograph with a color filter. (Though I like the idea of pressing the triangle down in the sand some.) Similarly, on the frames, I get a distinct feeling of a texture being masked in Photoshop around some edges. I guess I miss a bit of depth and wear.

- All in all, I'm not a fan of the emboss on the lettering, the House emblems or elsewhere. This might come across as Photoshop filter chauvinism, but I'm not sure I see it working anywhere, or at least not quite so obviously.
