Concept Art for a Morrowind "watch dog"

Post by Kevaar »

A strange creature that I was drawing randomly one day. I looked at it and thought it would go well with Morrowind. I'm thinking it would be a good Dunmer "watch dog"...they would chain it next to something they want to protect and if anybody comes near it would start hiss-barking--hrrrauff! hrrauff! hrrr...hrrrauff!--to alert a guard. It's not a particulary good fighter as it's slow, but it does give a nasty bite if it actually manages to catch up with the theif as he runs away.
It walks a little funny, its front foot toes turned inward like you see some lizards do. The back and tail wiggle back and forth almost like a snake's when its going fast.
The creature, though alert, is also quite lazy, and if you don't have a sun patch nearby for it to sunbathe in, it gets unhappy and depressed and stops alerting you to visitors.

With that face it looks more like an elswyr or argonia creature. However with more of an odd face (Think Nix Hound) It could easily be a fitting morrowind creature.

It looks like a basilisk or something close to it. I think it should be the creature of Black Marsh. As for Morrowind watch dogs... We have durzogs.

I believe Durzogs are imported much like goblins. Therefore we do not have morrrowind watchdogs.

Ghmm. Actually Mournhold is IN Morrowind... It's the political capital of Morrowind (under "politica capital" I mean that King of Morrowind + one of Tribunal lives (lived ? ) there)

Nix hounds were supposed to be domesticated but then Beth changed it. As a result there are no "trained" nix hounds. So you either have to add trained nix hounds or prefferably create an animal to act as a gaurd animal. For the Dres there are several however for the other races there are not.

I think it would be best for the argon jungle and more inland areas of black marsh. Kevaar, I HIGHLY reccomend you keep the badass lizards flowing! we will need lots within two years. :D In fact, perhaps noirgrim could make this a real creature (Im pretty sure he's the only other modeller who is really good with animations)?

Well concerning durzogs we had a good thread on this on the TES forums and I believe we came to the conclusion that they came with the Goblins to be trained as pets, apparently they go good together. The wild ones you can encouter are just strays that have run off or become lost in Mournhold. Durzogs likely are at home in the Summurset Ilse. You can look it up under lore, the developer of the creature commented on it.

OK if Durzogs can't be pet animals than we have nix-hounds. We will leave durzogs to Summerset Isles than :)
