Nostalgia (Part 2)

Post by CleverClothe »

I have been studying the forbidden art of Necromancy. But it has paid off. I have found the corpse of the old Tamriel Rebuilt site and forums (from m0use.net). It even goes back to before I joined. I just knew something had to be left.

Unfortunately the corpse is much decayed (only some forums open, and ZERO threads are left). But you can kind of get a feel for what thinks looked like at least:

(links don't exist now)
The website when I joined was: http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/tamriel

Forums: http://www.m0use.net/~ashen/forum

You can see the archived versions here:

Forums: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.m0use.net/~ashen/forum/index.php
(Sorry about the links)

The Apr 2002 forums have a copy of the Tavern forum AND SOME threads (linky linky 2 linky 3). Some of the errors I get indicate that perhaps the threads are there but Archive.org is having problems. Maybe we could check back over the weeks to come.

Map 1 History
Map 1 was given to the Secrets of Firewatch (Mod Mages) group way back in 2002. Eventually this group fell apart (I have attached a copy of their work). The land that they did do was used as a base for many of the first Map 1 claims (I know I used it). The attached copy of their work was modifed slightly at Tel Ouada's location by me before I split the cells off to work on (d'oh).

Over the winter of 2002-2003 we discussed and moved to the new claims system patterned after Silgrad Tower. The first claims happened in January or February. I had the 15th claim at the beginning of March. There weren't any towns planned for the area, but I felt there were too many Imperial settlements going in (Firewatch, Bal Oyra, Draconis). So I decided to build a Telvanni town (the first I think). Map 2 was opened some time later that spring.

And now, we are on the verge of releasing our first public beta!

I hope this information is somewhat interesting to people, small though it is.

I based todays Firewatch city off of 'Mod Mages' original concepts, and base structures they added in Claim C. Back then, it was a Hlaalu town with an imperial tower ...being that it made no sense to have a Hlaalu settlment there, it got changed to a completely imperial one, but the tower concept stayed.

I can't remember anyone from that page. It's really nostalgic to see such pics. Nice one.

I can't say anything special or nostalgic unfortunately. Heck, I couldn't even tell you that that was TR. :)

C'mon now, you know how it feels. It's like looking old family portraits you've never seen before. It's not the faces that make you feel nostalgia, it's the whole "past" thing.

We should package some kind of "evolution of Map1" bit with map1s next beta. (Not the one we're just about to release, the one after that) It's be funny to see stuff getting better and better as our skills improve, etc. It's mad to think that the mod that has roots goping back so far is sbout to get a release. It's a bit mad just to think about it.

Yes, I picked a good time to join. :D But I think I've seen Yinnie around, maybe she was just at the other forum I go to? :? Makes me feel a tad muddled...
