I started to work on this, set includes 4 pieces now. They only need a bit of refining(retexturing one part, moving around few vertices). Take a look at yourself if you want. I still need to work on the cranes. Any comments would be nice :P Screenie:

Update. I'm working on it. though, I'm not really sure how some parts(the crane) should work and what is what really. This stuff is ancient to me :P Soo... to move forward(except some small fixes) I really need some feedback. Comment as much as you can.

looks great :) i think the crane and its components should be sepparate meshes (like it curently is). im not too sure, but i think the turn table thing is supose to be under the table with hole in it thing.

Well, maybe it should, but it just doesn't fit the other way in CS :P I'll check again, because I want to refine that mesh a bit. And heh, I didn't use any new textures yet, but that's ok as long as it looks fine :) Isn't it?

ah, and now for some constructive critique.

1, How do they get up to the crane? Jump? Levitate? Add ladders.

2, The construction of the crane should have ironmounts of fittings with rivets. It should be added to joints, the wheels and other critical points of the crane.
Why? One, because it would look so much better & two because it is logical.

3, At the tip of the crane a bigger wheel for the rope should be added. (I dont even see the pulley now) Something like this. [url]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/30/Pulley.jpg[/url]

4, The planks of the base looks too thin to hold up the weight of the crane, add some thicker beams under it.

1.I'll test how it works with a vanilla lader first, before trying to make a new one. Unless you have an idea for something Hammerfell specific :)
2.No doubt you're right on that one. I'll try to improve those meshes.

hmm some more variations on the docks might be needed. In particular, endcaps. While they normally run from wall-to-wall, both the Gilane and Rihad concepts involve small breaks in the docks which would require end-caps.

Oh, endcaps, sure. Keep also in mind, that those two parts that I made by cutting of Eyeballs rihad dock in half fit each other and to the rest of the set from one side.

yey, review. here are things i noticed in the CS, game test pending.

-texture for the top of the docks is missing. i unpacked everything in the rar, so its either not there or the path is wrong.
-the snap to grid works, but stuff dosent always line up. textures dont tile when snaped or the bricks casper (show part of invisible side). this dosent happen with all meshes, but it restricts the number of posibilities somewhat. i sugest adding another mesh that has just the little brick pillar partition thig so that it can be snaped atop parts that dont really line up perfectly.

I know what's wrong with the texture. I messed up the uploaded file. Do it like this. Go to textures folder and move TRHFGroundstone.dds and its normalmap from textures/architecture to textures/tr/architecture.

And well, I know not all parts match up :P I can add such a thingie though. Waiting for your ingame test.

ok, did that. still no ingame review, ill get to that tomorow.

-texture needs fixing. it has a narrow white stripe at the top and tiles very obviously within itself wich becomes even more obvious on a large, repetitive surface. it also tiles together very obviously (since its just mirrored). a little clone tool for variation would really go a long way. im also not too fond of the plain black backdrop for the stones... but i have yet to check this in game.
-within the round dock piece the texture needs to be remaped or something, it tiles diagonaly and looks wierd (this is right down the middle)

Shit, I wanted to create a new texture to replace that one from the MC set and I didn't check the effect on the rounded piece :P I guess I'll just make a new one.

tested it in game, looks great. only found one more error:
-the ramps down to the water are weird. the way the polygons are aranged makes little sence and causes really ugly texture stretching. the ramp should just be a simple box |__|. the texture mapping may also need to be adjusted.

Anyway, I almost became sick of it :P Of the docks, since the cranes are ok. They're are a wild mess with a modeller on it trying to handle it. So propably, if I will get another error report, I'll kill that beast. And make a nice cute little pet as a replacement...

I'm sending this one back for remodelling to save TR from pain later. New meshes will be made. The crane is good though and will be left in the current form.

Well, the sides match perfectly in terms of size, each piece now has its pivot point in the center and has been placed at 0,0,0. You never know however...

Edit: Forgot to mention that I fixed the round part. Now each piece's polycount will be similar to that of a vanilla sidewalk when triangulated.

Upload meshes for purpose examine and feedback.

A bunch of 17 modular (hopefully functional) pieces for your eyes only. Position checked, pivot points checked, useless faces deleted.
Piece 14(Waterway2) isn't in 0,0,0 since it's made of 2 meshes. I wasn't sure whether to attach them or not.
Pieces 16 and 17 (Watertubes) are still Lathe objects. It's far easier to increase/decrease the number of segments this way.


Aro: As a matter of fact, no. I can hit the export button in the nifskope dialogue, but that's as far as I can go. I've no idea about adding stuff in the CS. If you fill me in, I'll be happy to do it (wanted to ask for this since yesterday).

Edit: I forgot to change the round part for the WatertubeSmall piece, so don't pay any attention to it.

I downloaded this yesterday, but they're just .max files. I can't open them and neither can anyone else who doesn't use 3dsmax. Post .nif files or .obj files as an alternative.

@Gez, He uploaded files with the ".max" extension.

Most programs have a .3ds import so that's a valid option as well, El Scumbago :)

I didn't have the time for this yet, sorry. I didn't found the time for mapping the lighthouse either. So as you see uploading just a maxscene causes work to get stuck somewhere on the stage "someone have a review on this please" :/

K, I tried to review this. Few important details.

Why seperate maxscenes for each part? That completely messes up my max and is wrong. Try out options like "export selected" or hide and unhide(display panel on the right, just next to utilities) meshes. I'm not able to compare and test(or even have a fast look at them) pieces easily while they are in seperate scenes.

Modularity is wrong. The width of the first mesh I opened was 1000 while it should be 1024.

The first mesh looked ok, apply the suggested changes please.

Sorry Morden, I didn't think anyone else would take a look so I uploaded the files as maxscenes for aro, who has max9. I'll export into nif's the next time.

Aro, what's that thing with the numbers? You hadn't informed me about it. Do the size values have to be multiples of 2? Like 2->4->8->16->32->...->512->1024 etc?

Second question: If I put them all in a single scene, we'd end up with a mess, since they're all in 0,0,0. Do you want me to get them all in a single file and then export them as nifs using the "export selected" command?

3rd: You said the width should be 1024. Is there a specific value (or set of values) for both the width and length? Height too?

Sorry for the trouble, but there are still a lot of things I'm unaware of.

Yes. This is a standard requirement for all tileset or tiling textures stuff in all games I've ever heard of.

Yes, exactly.

No, they won't end up being a mess. GM Middle class interiors modulars is in one maxscene. Each interior piece is centered in 0,0,0. I made over 40 pieces. Each piece has from 2 to over 20 objects included. 40x10=400 objects. Still, it isn't a mess. Why?

Each piece is grouped (Group -> Group). When I'm working on one of the pieces, everything else is hidden.

You have to enter specific values on each dimension they have to fit each other. So if you are making a modular column, the height has to be modular. And if you are making an interior piece, it has to be modular in each dimension.

Absolutely. The sides (width) of the dock parts I sent you match each other perfectly, since they're all made from the 1st mesh, but I'll go on and change the width accordingly, just in case it causes trouble in the CS. Then I'll merge in one, and send. Each piece is only made from a single mesh, so there's no grouping for me to do. Expect an update within the next couple of days :)

I'll be waiting :) I'm planning to do some OoT updates soon, it would be nice to get a dock set into it ;)
