Software and Formats Discussion

Post by aro101 »

Why obj if you can export the file directly to nif? You can upload the scen as well. I'm using max too :) And well, you can always learn all that stuff :) Every modeller was on that stage on which he could do models but mapping and textures not :D I'm not gonna force you to do anything though. It's all up to you.

PoHa: how can we best this trio of trouble? who will save us from this menace of sub-par models? what will we do?
PoHa: I know! we'll shoot an Aro at them
Aro: you have only one Aro missile!
PoHa: yes, but its heat seeking and quite possibly indestructible

I think all you have to do is add to it a mesh for the curly beard and hair, really. The new concept isn't that different from the old.

Because:

I'm not stupid, Gez. I read about the problem. I can still investigate a lot more in a nif than in a obj.

But not everyone uses 3dsmax or blender. .OBJ is almost universal as a format, and this way I can see the model before it goes through the .nif exporter.

So maybe upload .obj and .nif?

Obj files get corrupted so often that I don't trust them even a bit. But that's just my opinion.

Aro: for some reason 3dsMax has always had trouble with the .obj format. Other programs handle it very well... Without corruption... I just remembered that from when Fairwater sent me the MC meshes. Apologies for continuing the semi-offtopic discussion.

No problem. I cut it out now. We need a summary for formats and software. Anyone up to it? If not, I'm gonna take care about this sometime soon.

You're joking. Damn, if there's a free one out, why did I pay for 3ds max? *slaps head*

Because Blender's interface is, well, a cost in itself? :P

Now let's cut the banter a bit and start concept-arting. :]

o.O I just installed Blender so I can use both now. Tell me, do I NEED Python to import files?

Yes, you need to install python. I'm cutting the blender discussion out and pasting it into a different thread.
