Almilexia's Concept Art

Post by Almilexia »

I just began with making some concept art for Hammerfell and now me reads that is has been canceled. Is that right?

So what concept art should i make now. Has it to look like normal Morrowind does with those giant mushrooms and such? Can anyone give me some helpful advice please?

Hammerfell is being continued by a separate team outside of TR. For Morrowind, we do need concept art that fits morrowind. But there's more to that province than giant mushrooms. Have a look at the FCG topics.

Though I'm a little reluctant to call such photo manipulation concept art, for the simple reason that it can't conceptualize anything that hasn't already been photographed.

I see, so I will better work on Morrowind concepts then. I'm sorry that you don't like it, but I didn't know that I was supposed to draw it by hand. :(

I'm not sure whether he didn't like your work, drawings are just preferred. I don't know whether it is useful for the forum, but it looks interesting. You can find the Hammerfell project here http://z10.invisionfree.com/Hammerfell/, i think they would appreciate your help, but I think they will prefer if you made drawings too... Help is always wanted, so it will be appreciated if you join either of the projects.

I'm making some drawing now in Photoshop, but this will take me much longer than working with fotos. I have looked at the other concepts here and gathered some inspiration. :)

As I really want to be in Tamriel Rebuilt team, i suppose I will better stay here and concentrate on Morrowind.

You seem to have some skill with the digital brush. Quite nice work.

Disclaimer:
I'm not saying what I am about to say to be an ass or because I don't like you; I'm saying it to help you.

While a nice piece of art, I'm afraid it's not useful for us as concept art. First of all, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Morrowind. Secondly, it doesn't fulfill the goals of concept art. Know that concept art has very specific goals. It's not just about drawing pretty pictures. It is always about conceptualizing something specific for further development, an environment for example, or a creature, or a costume.

Read these threads, if you haven't already:
http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=15316
http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=22216

Make sure you understand the function of concept art. Considering your skill I'm sure you will be able to show us some cool morrowind concept art once you understand this.

Well, I think she's pretty good...hell, if I was better at Photoshop, all of my fungus designs would look pretty photo-realistic.

Speaking of which, I know we're past that topic...but I finished a piece based off your suggestion - included a variation of looks so that it wouldn't be immediately pigeon-holed as 'another mushroom' drawing, lol.

I'll post it here sometime this week (if I can pull myself away from SC2 that is) :D

Thank you very much guys, that's very kind of you :)

But I think Myzel has a point with what he said and so I suppose you should tell me what kind of concept is needed at the moment. If I makes a concept for an armor for example and there is no good 3D modeler available at the moment or you say you need no new armor now, what sense would that make for me to do a drawing for it then?

Here is a Focused Concept Group that needs art. http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=22852

Try looking there and reading the descriptions of what are needed.
And that's how you get to Llama School.

Check our FCG threads in the Concept Art forum. The stickied ones all require art to help conceptualise their topic.

I just followed that link you gave me, but the last post in there was from 2008, are you sure it is still worked on this area? Just want to be sure I'm doing the right thing. :(

EDIT: Ooops :) i misread the date one modder registered at with the date of the last post.

Anyways, this area seems to be quite intriguing with its salty lakes and bizzare salt formations. I will give it a try then. ;)

If you're interested in using photo-manipulation for concept art, you should really check out the art of Daniel Dociu (an artist at Arena Net, at the moment). The trick is to obscure and manipulate the photos, not just stitch them together, and he does it perfectly.

I know what you mean, but he's a professional artist and me is only 19y old girl. I know I got still much to learn. Well here's a first quick concept for deshaan. It's mixed martial arts again ;). I will make som e more sketchy sketches lateron too.

Wow that's really cool and very Morrowindy. It would be better if you would post these in the FCG thread I linked to from here. That way we can keep all the Deshaan Plains concepts in one place.
And that's how you get to Llama School.

Reminds me of the Travellers Tales logo (which has always been a favourite of mine). Very nice atmospheric CA piece there. You did a really good job of blending the photographed imagery in with the painted too and the overall look is very reminiscent of the early Morrowind atmospherics.

I just wish you would have blurred out that strider further off in the distance ;)
