Yeah, I have just one question on this, how the hell are they gonna have you battling something as big as a dragon...

Nothing could be easier. For example, you'll find many online games where your character has to battle dragons, so I guess that will be possible in a single player one like Skyrim as well.

Bink Video cinematics? Oh no, let's hope in real time dragon fights (if really we'll have to fight dragons in TES V)...

Well in case you didn't notice, dragon fights in most games are remarkably lacking in quality...

Maybe something like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divinity_2:_Ego_Draconis

Like, at the end, you get item/spell/blessing/(insert something) that let you transform into dragon.

Or some weapon that let you fight it (ballista).

Or insanelly strong armor that enables you to survive dragon eating you and you fight from inside.

Besides, just because there are dragons, it doesn't mean that YOU will fight it. Just a thought...

I have played Divinity 2 and the most important drawback playing when a dragon is that you're in not time from the beginning to the end of a map, unless you meet heavy resistance. However the resistance doesn't respawn. The gameworld needs to be very big or needs to have a lot of respawnable enemies (cfr the cliffracers at Morrowind).
I wonder if those dragons will fly and if the character could fly or root the dragons.

This is a copy paste from another site, but I think it's interesting to post:

Quote:
Gamers are clever people, so clever in fact that they have already decrypted the cover of Game Informer, revealing some juicy details on Elder Scrolls Skyrim. Fans have already decoded Game Informer’s cryptic Skyrim cover, surprisingly revealing hints of a plot revolving around heroes, evil and war. From the decrypted code below it sounds like gamers are going to have their hands full keeping evil at bay.

Exciting stuff.

There are finally some screens of TES V available. http://twitpic.com/photos/Wo33er
A Dovahkiin seems to be a dragon hunter and for who haven't guessed Alduin will be your main enemy. Unless I'm wrong, Alduin is Akataosh but I won't go in detail since I'm no lore buff. There are some interesting dicussions to be found at the imperial library site and the elder scrolls forum.

Personally I kinda think they're squandering this '200 years after' thing. They could have done a lot of interesting stuff, but it looks like the world's going to be pretty much the same, just with more 'history' airlifted in.

Also, I don't get how Alduin can be stopped by anyone if it really is the end of a kalpa (which they seem to be playing up), nor how this is a 'return' of his power which has been defeated before. or whatever... I think this is set up to be underwhelming given the potential. Looks as if someone might just have seen 'world eater' in a book somewhere and assumed they were good to go with him as an enemy.

I am also not a fan of the graphical style so far, seems kinda incohesive with the playdoughy, bloomy Oblivion look for armor and weapons and the contorted Fallout look for enemies.

Call me a sceptic, but I think it's going to be exactly what we expect it to be. A decent fantasy game that in no way lives up to the potential of the material.

though not the idea of him being mundane enough to have a precedent of defeat? I guess I'd just appreciate some further clarification from Beth on the function/heritage of these dragons.

They seem very much 'real' wheras i always thought the whole kalpa thing as being kind-of in the 'next level up' of TES lore, along with all the metaphysics and shiz, rather than just being part of the history of the world, like Akaviri invasions and other such historical/mythical things.

Metaphysics is very much real despite the fact that its rarely directly referenced. Just because you are not aware of the cells that make you up doesn't mean they don't exist.

It's a good thing they're going with dragons because making your product more similar to Dragon Age is the only way to get big sales.

I also really look forward to playing a first person version of the Norse from Age of Mythology, because the Nord's can't possibly be anything else then an amalgamation of Scandinavian Vikings.

Did I misread a scan, or did they spin Thu'um to be Dragonspeak? Neutral

The changes to the combat system, skills, and the removal of classes all sound reasonable. I like the fact that the player will be the Dovahkiin, instead of having to babysit yet another NPC. Their stance on level-scaling sounds like they learned from their mistakes in Oblivion. This whole "dynamic questing" sounds a bit hit-or-miss, but if they manage to pull it off in a non-immersion-breaking way, it has the potential to be quite amazing. Ramping up the Radiance of the AI is something I very much like. Very much wondering if they'll record voice acting for every line of speech (sounds pretty impossible if we are to believe the vast amount of possibilities the article sketches) and if they do, if the NPC interactions will turn out like Oblivion, in the way that only certain races could start certain quests through the rumor mill since there simply were no voice files for the other races.

I'm more and more inclined to believe that Skyrim will, at least gameplay-wise, be an enjoyable game. Still skeptical about the story.

One thing I am wondering is whether or not the playable game will observe the province borders as we currently know them, since the game's set to occur some 200 years after the latest up-to-date map of the continent we know of. I guess it makes sense to stick with the Jerall and Velothi mountains as southern and eastern borders. Also which five cities will be featured in the game, and which will be left out and if they'll be included through DLC or not.

I can't say i'm a fan either, I'm somewhat disappointed they've kept this as well. The lighting really takes the edge off alot of the models, not to mention the occasional dispreportion of over-contrasted colouring.

I'm a lot more confident in Skyrim having seen the behind the scenes development video, and in particular having a good look at the map halfway through. It looks like they've really spiced up the world with regions like 'volcanic wasteland' and what appear to be a number of different sized towns. Combine that with the screenshots we have so far and I think Skyrim could a lot more interesting to explore than Oblivion. I don't know why everyone's complaining about the graphics, I think the game looks great and I love the graphical style. I'm not so sure about messing around with the skills but I won't be to sad if they change the levelling system.

North wants to secede from the south. Rebels vs. Royalists. And the king of Skyrim is murdered. And the player will again be a prisoner. And they will implement the Greybeards somehow.

I can only agree here, seriously. It looks a lot better than TES IV. I'm very much looking forward to see what else they do in TES V to make good for the dishonor that Oblivion was to me.

It's almost a shame that Bethesda still has control over what is probably the best fantasy IP ever written. Whatever they don't manage to squander they intentionally simplify and water-down.

Will probably be a fun enough game. I don't like how they play up the "Radiant Story" though. Bethesda aren't even good at letting the game generate content to begin with, and a more "personalized experience" is no substitute for a properly designed and written quest. Just sounds to me like an easy way to pad out the game, filling out an otherwise relatively barren world devoid of any real integrated story.

This best fantasy IP ever written is their creation, after all... They have the right to keep control over it for as long as they want imho.

Also, I doubt that someone else would be able to return to TES the depth of Morrowind, if ever TES would be aquired by another software house, simply because I feel that few have an interest in developing a game like Morrowind nowadays (apart from TR of course!).

However TES V is not out yet, how can we be so sure that it will be lame without having tried it yet? Don't count your eggs before they're hatched... Maybe TES V won't be like Morrowind, but I'm pretty sure it will be a lot more better than Oblivion. Smile

My thought is that since the game is taking care of fluff the quest designers can focus on real quests and interactions.

A few roguelike elements isn't necessarily a bad thing- 100% of the missions and assignments in Frontier: Elite were procedurally generated and that was still a brilliant, immersive game.

I should probably pick an example of a game that's not older than half of the people here, but whatever.

This new trailer looks great, although the running-in-the-woods-sequence is what any north european has when he goes for a walk in the countryside at this time of the year. Let's hope Bethesda has actually made Skyrim unique, and has not repeated the mistakes of Oblivion ...
