Uld Vraech Trees

It is important that these fit in with BM trees and the Uld Vraech region, but that they have a distinct Morrowind feel to them. The Morrowind version of conifers, almost.

I feel like a relatively easy thing to model. Care to grant?

Wow, this one got away from us... anything in the way of an update on this, Ada? If there's no post within a week, it'll be revoked.

This one is super important now that we've opened the ash swamp claims. Uld Vraech is supposed to be next one up...

Sorry, Necrom was slightly higher on my priority list right now.

I do have one of these modeled already (and the rest are variations.) Will put up pictures later today.

Any chances for pictures alongside other BM stuff? Also BM ground textures to have consistency if possile.

I'm thinking the green color could be slightly darker, maybe even the trunk.

Is this one progressing? I'm eager to test these trees in the CS - we don't have many map 5 claims before starting with the Uld Vraech part.

Sorry guys, been busy with getting the SE claims up to speed. I have updated these a little in the meanwhile, but until I can get the Blender nifscripts to work in 2.5, I can't export them. I will get on it after this week.

Transferring claim ownership, this has been discussed with Adan. If you could upload those WIP files here Adan that'd be great. Good luck LiAv and please ask any questions you have here in this thread!

Hey, LiberumAvis. As requested (and as I should have done a long time ago), I'm dropping the WIP models (and original PSD texture files) that I once made here. Feel free to ignore these completely, but use/alter them as you see fit if you want to. The (high resolution) PSD files make the archive rather big, so you'll find them on my Dropbox (allow some time for uploading):

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/35517884/MW%20trees.zip

The idea was to use alpha textures to create that gnarled, dense look. Unfortunately, that doesn't work too well in the game because the planes with these textures on them are still shaded as such, which means you get the funny effect of dark and light sides to seemingly unrelated branches. A less flat/regular topology for the planes might remedy that, I don't know.

In any case, good luck.

I'm busy lately, but I have time to finish this week, I think.

There is one question - can I use this model as an example in my guide? I will not share this models, only the screenshots and description on their example.

Not sure what guide you are referring to, but I don't see any problems with that. All of TR's models are available to the entire Morrowind modding community anyway, so go ahead.

Or are you talking about the model I provided a few posts earlier? In that case, use it in whatever way you see fit. I lay no claim to it whatsoever.

Well, I corrected Adanorcil's meshes and completed them.

There are meshes for http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/6629/trantlerfir.jpg

not all done, I'm going to optimize the texture when it is ready all claim.

About the first art: what size are assumed to these things? These plants belong to the same species that in another art?

They're a different species for sure, but I'm not sure about the size. I'd say about 1.5x character size would be cool but I'll ask Nemon just to be sure. Having multiple versions for different stages of growth (varying amounts of 'layers' of scales) would be awesome too, and snowy/non-snowy variants.

The other concepts strike me as something bush-like, so the size suggested by Why and seems about right to me.

Like what you did with the antler firs. It's definitely an improvement over mine. Others may disagree, but I was thinking that a few variations could maybe be useful: a version of the big one with different arrangement of branches, a mid version where some of the husks of the juvenile one are still present, but folded open, ...

Nice work, LA!
Not just me, I just corrected Adanorcil's meshes a bit.

Also, Adanorcil, just in case. You talked about the problems with alpha. Just put a flag on AlfaProperty on the 4845, it works much better than the standard 237, which can be found on vanilla models.

I suddenly had some problems irl, but I will return to work as quickly as I can.

Since we have no head of models, and LA is somewhat gone, I took the liberty to review these:
  • *Renamed them to antlerfir1 and 2, since that is what the title says. Also for the textures, so we can find them more easily later on.
*The branches on the bigger plant where seperate objects. I connected them to the main branch for a smoother look. Also new Uv-map there.
*Changed the textures to normal mw sizes. (saving a lot of memory there.)
*Changed the alpha values somewhat to improve how they work with mge etc.
*Added a little more dirt and grunge to the textures after downscaling them.
*Some things I forgot to mention.

I'll post the finished files in the Data thread. Do we need the other conespruce aswell? Otherwise you can change the ownership of this claim to me and I will try to finish it as a little break from Dres.

Are you able to upload files in posts here? If so it's best to do that when dealing with claims. People really should never have gotten into the habit of posting models and textures in discussion threads; now that there are starting to be claims, people seem to forget they are here solely for organizing files and discussion.

Maybe someone should set up the claims that where suggested earlier. We can't be soon enough to set up the dres interior claims, most likely for concepting fase. Also Dres salt tools, Dres Hunter armor fixing etc etc.

Can I still upload my fixed meshes that are already in Data to the data update thread? Or do we need to make claims for that too?

Transferred ownership to Mwgek since he finished the work here. I'll be double checking to make sure conespruces are already in TR_Data/finished, then I'll approve this.

EDIT: Conespruces are already in TR (normal and snow versions).

Approved!
