Spellbooks?

Post by Theo »

Hi guys,
what would you say that we removed the spell scripts from some of the spellbooks for following reasons:

1] The logic behind them, I believe, was that even Vampire characters had some ways how to learn spells. I do not think vampires need such a compensation.

2] The idea was never fully implemented. Only selected and not quite representative spells were implemented in the end. Therefore the idea behind spellbooks does not fill its purpose and is quite inconsistent and confusing. Either add more substantial spell-effects or abandon it for good.

3] Your spelllist gets littered with useless and weak spells. Annoying thing if you are a mage character with already long list of spells and silly punishment for just opening a book.

Can't one remove spells from the list? (I am not at home so I can't check right now.) Even if it isn't possible, I am pretty sure the engine rewrite projects would implement such a feature.

Besides, I have already used the concept of spellbooks in a quest and am planning to do so a few more times. I don't think they do any damage as they are, even if they are of no use to most players. There was a suggestion on the public forums to rewrite their scripts so as to ask the player whether he wants the spell added to his list or not. If we can agree on this, I can do the rewriting.

About the idea being not fully implemented: well, if people write more books, we can add new spells to them. The mainland isn't fully implemented either...

You can remove spells from your list in Morrowind. I think it was shift-click, don't quote me on that though.

At most, I feel we should add an option to learn the spell. I'd just as soon leave it alone if you can delete spells. I remember that being a feature.

And Nemon, don't be mean. *glances at his own sig.*

Yeah, shift clicking should work.
