Pruning Old Accounts

Post by Tondollari »

To renew interest in TR, it might be worth considering pruning old accounts.

Send out an email to all registered users saying that accounts that have been inactive for more than one calendar year will be closed in, say, 4 months. Members should log in so that their account will not be closed. This forum has been around for several years so some users might bite, log in, and possibly discuss TR.

I've seen another forum do this and it resulted in a sharp increase in member interest. Which was mostly a good thing.

At TR we have a strict policy of not deleting content, and that in a way extends to users as well. If there are duplicate accounts, we will close those down, and have done regular account pruning of unactivated users (those who never activated their accounts) in the past, but there's been no evidence to suggest that such actions would increase membership for a 13-year-old mod project for a nearly 13-year-old game.

Not to mention we would have problems with post association, and we'd lose a record of the number of people registered here.

This does not sound like a good idea to me. Wouldn't it result in a lot of posts disappearing?

Posts would not vanish AFAIK, but as Haplo said post association might be a problem.

Would definitely suck if I forgot to stop by one year...
Trudging through the relentless Skyrim snowstorms, the lone Paladin looks on in sorrow as the land of Tamriel evolves without him; his mind occupied with other matters.

I second Lord_Gallant's post. Please don't forget about us long time lurkers.
