Some Ideas

Post by Dormichigan64 »

Here are some ideas I came up with:

Argonian settlements in the south. They wouldn't want to be spoted so they would be pretty secluded, and temporary, and crudely made.

Dres master warrior helm. A bonemold helm with glass parts. Resembles the face of a skyrender. It looked cool in my mind.

Swamphead. A mushroom that grows and hangs off of the ceilings of caves down in the south. Poisonous, but enhances your senses.

Opinions, comments, sugestions, anything.

As for the helmet, someone might be able to "decapitate" the Skyrender from Super Llama's Max scene from the Skyrender public discussion thread and use that as a starting point.

I personally wouldn't overdo the Argonians = Mesoamerican angle, though that has certainly been the tendency of not only TR, but also the TES novels (I think) and TESO. I like the other ideas, but those areas are a long way off from being properly planned, let alone made, so it's too early to say. It's almost certain that there will be an Argonian faction in the Argon Swamp/Jungle/whatever-the-region-will-end-up-being, though, so some form of tileset and armour seems rather likely, at any rate.

Perhaps every nation Argonia will have its own style?
A temples in the Mayan style are only as ruins of ancient settlements, like dunmer fortreses
But unfortunately TR do not od Argonia, so Argonians must be submitted generally. Like Nords in Bloodmon.

I like something like this for light argonian armor and wearon:

I think this is will be beautiful in the southern unexplored jungle on the border of Morrowind and Argonia.

hmmm. not too much aztec/maya go for a more native american/south african south-east asian look. remember how dunmer are a mix of more than five cultures, keep that in mind when modeling for other races. the more cultures inspire, the better.

Frankly, if we want Mesoamerican architecture in the Argon Jungle, I'd go with House Dres and Dunmer strongholds. I'm not completely convinced by the idea of Argonians building with stone; I'm not sure if it meshes well with their culture. My impression of Argonians is that they are very malleable and changing; they come in various shapes and sizes, and undergo at least one transformation in their lifespan. I'd think they would favour organic and, to other races, inhospitable structures.
As st. Veloth points out, at their best TES cultures have various cultural influences; though admittedly another route would be to fully embrace the Mesoamerican angle but try to subvert it and cast it in a new light, much as was done with the Dwemer and Dwarves. I think Mesoamerica should certainly be one of those influences -- the colourful and decorative armour is certainly fitting, and concept art in that direction exists -- but I think it should be seen as a starting point for our designs, not an ending point.
More directly, I'm concerned about simply using visual aspects of a culture without looking for deeper similarities and differences. As I more or less state in the first paragraph, visuals should reflect culture, and not the other way around. It's only after we explore Argonian culture that we'll really be able to decide what does and doesn't fit them on a visual level. And that's a fairly broad topic to tackle, though for that very reason it's not necessarily a bad idea to start early.

It may be the ruins of Mayan temple in which built many wooden huts like the Brazilian favelas?
