Welcome to Tamriel Rebuilt !

Tamriel Rebuilt is a modding project that adds Morrowind's mainland to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for you to explore. We follow Bethesda Softworks' original lore and creative vision so that you never lose the sense of a coherent game world.

To date, about half of the mainland is playable, with additional in-progress work available for preview. Seek out exciting new adventures in the Telvanni east, the Indoril heartland, and the contentious Aanthirin region. Download Tamriel Rebuilt here

Our team of artists, modders, and writers is passionate about expanding Morrowind into a whole province, complete with diverse new landscapes, cities, stories, and hidden secrets. Though the project is over two decades old, work continues with people like you joining periodically. You can help us reach our goal by becoming a developer today, no experience required.

Also check out Project Tamriel, our sister project. Through shared assets and lore, we are coordinating the (re)building of much more than Morrowind alone.

Announcing Tamriel_Data

Tamriel Rebuilt, Project Tamriel building unified Data Structure

Starting with release 1609, Tamriel Rebuilt will move to a new data structure. TR_Data is out, Tamriel_Data is in, and a host of changes come with it!

If you just want to skip ahead, you can find download links here.

Culminating from a year of hard work, Tamriel_Data contains a unified file structure spearheaded by Project Tamriel and Tamriel Rebuilt as the first adopter.
Not only will this make assets from both projects available to each other and third party modders, but the assets are organised in a logical, easy to navigate syntax, enabling our modders to create content more easily. A file name will now have the context that was previously only known by trial, error, and experience.

It will probably not quite look like this.

Additionally, we are now supplying both vanilla-style resources and a high-resolution alternative. Now, no matter how much you doll up your game, mods relying on Tamriel_Data will never look out of date again!

Left: low resolution, Right: high resolution

Note: While the assets for Project Tamriel are all available in both high and resolution, Tamriel Rebuilt is not nearly done. Any texture artists willing to help are welcome!

Tamriel_Data for players

Update your BSA list

First, if you used more than one of the big three province Mods (Tamriel Rebuilt, Skyrim: Home of the Nords, Province: Cyrodiil), you will be able to just use Tamriel_Data with each of them. Three ESMs and BSAs now become one ESM and one BSA: easy on the load order, and easier to keep track of.

The hardest part is remembering to edit your Morrowind.ini to use the new BSAs instead of the old ones. Since you have probably played one of the bigger mods, you should know how this works: just locate the file in your Morrowind game directory, find the [Archive] section, add the two new BSAs (TR_Data.bsa, PT_Data.bsa), replacing obsolete entries if they were there, done.
Alternatively, you can of course use BSAReg, which ususally takes care of that automatically.

Example setups

Just make sure that your Tamriel_Data is up to date, which the province mods will alert you to in our releases.

Summer 2016 Update Video is Out

We have a new update video out on Youtube! It's a little late, but is full of new information. There's no new release this quarter as we've been working hard on behind-the-scenes type stuff that doesn't show up in the construction set-- yet. We've been working on the Deshaan Plains and are still looking for help from modders on a variety of subjects. If you want to know more, watch the video.

Our March release continues to be available at our website, TESNexus, and Great House Fliggerty.

Website Update

It’s been a good while since the last site update, but progress is underway, nontheless.

After many updates to the TR Handbook, it is maturing into the go-to guide for Tamriel Rebuilt, both for resources, guides, but also for lore and background information.

In another step towards a more modern, streamlined design process, we are starting to use a new Asset Browser, where we will coordinate meshes, textures, quest proposals and similar bottom-up develoment. As before, you do not need to be a developer to post Assets.

Finally, the website design has been updated, with improved support for mobile devices and a general eye-friendly overhaul.

While all of these processes are far from done, the recent steps taken make good on our promise that we will see this restructure through until the final release of a full Morrowind province.

There are, however, still many things that need to be done  and for this we need your help! For more information on the types of work we need, check out our Help Wanted page.

Tamriel Rebuilt - 16.03 Release

Tamriel Rebuilt is pleased to announce the release of build 16.03!

What’s New

Aside from continuing the trend of bug-fixes and internal housekeeping from the last update, this update includes various minor additions to all of the files, the most visible of which is an overhaul of southern Morrowind's provisional heightmap. Our next update will be released in June 2016. Future updates will continue to be maintenance releases. Our project is currently in the final stages of planning and conceptualization of House Dres and the Deshaan Plains, so stay tuned for further updates on this front. Please consult our changelog for a detailed list of changes and fixes. You are encouraged to visit our forums, or social media outlets to keep track of current progress.

For more details, please watch the release video above! And now for a special announcement...

==============================================================

The Tamriel Rebuilt Team needs YOU!

That's right. For the first time since the initiation of our ongoing project restructure, we are calling for your help. As we are now in the leeward end of our major transition, the time will soon come when we will resume work on planning and developing actual content.

We are in need of a wide range of skills, from administration, organization, planning, writing, art, assets, and eventually actual construction/implementation. Don't worry if you don't know how to use the CS, as contributions to planning and art design will greatly accelerate implementation, and are just as important towards making measurable progress. There are many things to be done outside the construction set. For more information on the types of work we need, check out our Help Wanted page! Our showcase policy has become less restrictive in recent months, and is now only required for actual Construction work. Concept Art, Assets, Literature, writing and planning are exempt from the process and is now open to all.

Open Chat with Zaric Zhakaron

Hello everyone!

We recently managed to sit down for a couple of hours and have a nice chat with podcaster Zaric Zhakaron. Zaric is a wonderful person who has dedicated alot of time podcasting and reviewing games, TES in particular. His videos often offer insightful commentary on many aspects of the TES multiverse, and we were honoured when he approached us to do an interview.

It was a very fun and engaging chat, that runs well over 2 hours. We discuss a multitude of topics in the video including:

- Our thoughts on good game design.
- Our thoughts on TES and Morrowind.
- Our creative vision and process.
- The ongoing project restructure.
- Our position on changing vanilla content in the future.
- Our plans for House Dres
- A tease as to what's to come in the next few months.
- Mushrooms, cliff racers, broken microphones, and so much more!

We hope you enjoy the interview! If you love TES and/or Morrowind, be sure to send his channel some love!

What's New

We have a release video!

Aside from the usual bug-fixes, we have been focusing a lot on internal housekeeping, sorting out our plugins and file structure to make things easier for us going forward. That being said, this release is not without new content to play with:

A small plugin which adds travel locations across all of the areas we have created so far and integrates our travel network with Vvardenfell's has been packaged with the main download. This plugin is designed to be loaded with TR_Preview, but is not dependent on it; players using the plugin without TR_Preview loaded may just end up traveling to the middle of the ocean if they pick a destination outside of the TR_Mainland landmass. Aside from being a convenience measure, this plugin also provides a rough idea of the travel network we will be working towards including in TR_Mainland. Please post any feedback to this plugin in this thread.

The travel network as it currently stands can be seen here:

On a smaller scale, some cell names have been added to Almalexia to aid orientation within its vast sprawl.

As always with updating, please be sure to remove the previous install of Tamriel Rebuilt in its entirety. For a full list of changes, please consult the changelog file that is included in the package.

Our next update will be released in March 2016.

Thank you for your continued support, and we hope you enjoy this release!

Tamriel Rebuilt - 15.10 Release

Tamriel Rebuilt is pleased to announce the release of build 15.10!

Download: Main Mirror | Fliggerty | Nexus

What’s New

It has been well over a year since our last update, and we feel it's time to get things moving along. The delay in releases has been attributed to, as many of you may already well know, a major restructuring in our project. While this past year has seen little in terms of in-game progress, we are now laying the foundations for the various stories and quests you will experience on the Mainland.

This latest release contains a few minor bugfixes to existing content, and is classified as a maintenance release. Most major changes and additions are in our Preview file (formerly known as TR_Alpha). We are incredibly pleased to include the unfinished City of Almalexia in the Preview. This is intended to be a treat to you, the player, rather than a representation of the city in its' final form. The city has no interiors or NPCs, and may cause stability issues. We provide the city as-is, with no guarantee or support in terms of bugfixes, as the city will eventually be redone entirely. We have also added the unfinished heightmap of Southern Morrowind, as we have recieved many complaints about land cutoffs to the south. Between the main release and the preview release, you will now be able to access the entire mainland landmass. Amongst other changes, most of the city of Old Ebonheart has now been interiorized and NPCed, so feel free to explore the city!

As always, with updating, please be sure to remove the previous install of Tamriel Rebuilt in its' entirety. If you are also running the TR_Alpha.esp file, delete it immediately, as the TR_Preview file contains the data included in the Alpha, with further additions. For a full list of changes, please consult the changelog file that is included in the package.

Forum Update

It's almost been a year since the last news update, but we've been chugging along below the radar. Enough time has passed since our structure overhaul so that we can see what has worked out well and where we need to make further improvements and adjustments, and this short update will focus on a few examples of the latter:

While the more open Lead Developer/Senior Developer system has generally been an improvement over the prior, more secretive and exclusive management structures, some organizational work -- such as posting news updates -- has fallen by the wayside in the transition between management. We are working on amending that -- our tumblr page which has long been inactive has been revived for instance -- but still have a ways to go.
The move to the new website and restructuring of the forums has also never really been completed. As far as the latter is concerned, at least, we're working on it right now. We've fixed permissions, consolidated the antiquated forum categories, forums and sub-forums, and have begun the process of moving obsolete threads to the now-visible forum archives and replacing all the ancient and convoluted stickies that are littered about the place.

So in short, the forums and website are still a mess, but we're sorting things out and will keep you posted. Once we're done, TR will be cleaner and more accessible as a website, a forum and project. Thank you for your understanding.

Tamriel Rebuilt - 14.08 Release

Tamriel Rebuilt is pleased to announce the release of build 14.08!

Download: Fliggerty | Nexus

What’s New

This is the first release in our new release system, and contains all updates originally planned for Sacred East 1.6, as well as an updated version of our unfinished Alpha lands which now include the remaining parts of Velothis district including the city of Baan Malur, and the Skyrim border regions. No new lands have been added to TR_Mainland, though some of our existing areas around Bosmora got a huge overhaul. There are also many new quests, including the completion of Akamora’s Fighters’ guild questline! Between the Main file and the alpha, one can now access the entire Mainland with the exception of the City of Almalexia and the unfinished heightmap of Southern Morrowind.

Please be sure to remove Sacred East, TR_Data, and the previous alpha (if installed), prior to installing the contents of this archive, as this format supersedes all previous TR releases. We have also updated our readme to be in PDF format for increased readability. Those wishing for a text version can find one here. Changelogs will also be included in all future builds of Tamriel Rebuilt. You can find a list of changes in this update here.

Project Status [August 2014]

While this update does not add any new lands to the playable release, you can explore more areas in the Alpha. We anticipate the first of these areas, the Thirr River Valley, will be ready for the next update, possibly in early 2015. We are currently in the final stages of NPCing these areas (shaded in green in the map below). Other areas including the cities of Old Ebonheart and Andothren (areas in Yellow) are well into the NPC planning stages, and it will likely be that they will start the NPCing process as soon as we are finished the Thirr River Valley areas. This is an exciting time for Tamriel Rebuilt, as we begin to solidify our planning processes to bring you areas that are even more captivating than those found in prior versions of Tamriel Rebuilt.

Development Map (not a release schedule).

Thank you for your patience, and we hope you enjoy this release!

Announcing a major change in our release structure – please read

In an effort to make our content both finished and unfished more accessible to the public, we are phasing out our current system that bills our content into major “releases” in favour of a model that allows content to be released more gradually and frequently.

Starting from our next update/release (which should come soon), we will no longer be releasing content based on the “eight major releases” plan. Given the lengthy (and increasinly non-linear) nature of TR's development, we have decided that our prior approach no longer suits our needs or desires to release content to you in a timely fashion.

Instead, we will be taking the approach of simply adding onto the main download as we finish areas, wherever and whenever they become playable. You will be recieving bite-sized chunks of our content gradually as we progress towards completion. We are moving to a single release/update stream where both minor bugfixes and additions will happen simultaneously. So rather than say a major “Almalexia” 1.0 release, followed by subsequent bugfixes, you will get a single update with a snapshot of all progress. Some updates will be major, and some not as much. Think of it as your operating system updating itself throughout the course of its' life. This should reduce the confusion and consolidate all releases from now on. Any land additions to the main file will be marked and emphasized in the changelog.

We are also merging our Alpha and Main releases in the same stream, instead of releasing them seperately and at seperate times. Each iteration of Tamriel Rebuilt's public release will include the Main ESM file containing our playable content, as well as the optional Alpha ESP containing our unfinished content. As content in the latter becomes playable, it will migrate into our Main ESP. Bundling both files together will help reduce file incompatibilites with users who choose to use both files. It is recommended that if you wish to use the Alpha however, that you do so with something other than your current savegame, as it's strictly for playtesting and experimental purposes only.

Finally, all future builds of Tamriel Rebuilt will be versioned based on the year and month of that update/release. So if an update/release happens on August of this year, the build number would be 14.08 (quite similar to Ubuntu's release scheme). Should hotfixes need to be released for major issues, the specific day will also be fixed to the version number. The names originally intended for our major releases will still be used as codenames to mark major milestones (like the completion of Almalexia or the the Thirr River). Hopefully this numbering scheme will make it much easier to keep track of progress, and ensure one always has the latest version of TR installed.
